Job Description:
Security Officers are the first point of contact for all persons visiting/entering the University of Johannesburg. This position is responsible for professional security protection, safeguarding, safety, and security of assets, property, staff,students, and all visitors within the immediate vicinity of the University.
Responsibilities:
Security Services
- Patrol the grounds physically and use access control to safeguard UJ workers, students, and visitors’ property.
- Make sure that visitors, employees, and students follow the security guidelines.
- Make sure that the physical security infrastructure—such as the gates, lamps, and burglar proofing—is operational and report any issues.
- Patrol the university’s grounds to look for and stop indications of intrusion and make sure that all doors, windows, and gates are shut securely.
- Notify the control room or duty room of any emergency occurrences and take prompt action in responding to them.
- Before supervisors arrive, secure crime scenes in accordance with instruction.
- Make sure all the paperwork related to a particular incident is finished.
- Note down the circumstances and provide an accurate written and spoken statement.
- When using electronic security systems, keep an eye on them.
Minimum requirements
- Matric/grade 12 or an equivalent qualification from NQF4
- Computer literature with a valid Grade C PSIRA registration
- (basic Microsoft packages) clearance document from the police services in South Africa.
- A current driver’s license and a minimum of two years of security services experience
- The candidate must meet the necessary physical, psychological, and medical standards for the role.
Working Conditions:
- Work shifts in accordance with the University’s operating requirements (i.e., around-the-clock, seven days a week),
- which may include regular day shifts, night shifts, alternating shifts, etc.
- Working or traveling between locations may be necessary.
- Needed to operate in all weather conditions and wear a uniform
Recommendations:
- Applicants with security/risk management qualifications NQF5 or above will be given preference.
- Candidates with experience with Nimbus, Impro Portal, and video management solutions will be given preference.
- Applicants with prior expertise in corporate or educational campus security environments will be given preference.
- Applicants with a professional driver’s permit (PDP) will be given preference.
- Applicants with higher PSIRA grades or accreditation (such as Grade A or B, Armed Reaction) will be given preference.
- Candidates possessing a current SAPS fire-arm competency certificate will be given preference.
- Candidates with first aid and firefighting training or experience will also be given preference.
