Purpose of the Driver Role
The primary purpose of this Driver position at Sasol Secunda is to ensure the correct, safe, and timely loading, securing, and offloading of materials at Sasol’s warehouses, TEM workshop, business units, and supplier locations. The Driver is also responsible for maintaining the roadworthiness of company vehicles and ensuring full compliance with all applicable traffic laws and safety regulations at all times.
Key Responsibilities
As a Driver at Sasol Secunda, your day-to-day duties will include:
Materials Handling & Delivery
- Accurately loading and offloading required materials at the warehouse, TEM workshop, and Secunda Operations sites as needed.
- Ensuring on-time delivery along designated routes, with a thorough knowledge of applicable routes and offloading points.
- Using gate passes and all relevant documentation to confirm and record deliveries and collections accurately.
- Taking full care, custody, and control of the company vehicle, all assets, and all materials being transported at all times.
Vehicle Safety & Compliance
- Conducting daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with Sasol standards and South African traffic legislation.
- Adhering strictly to all traffic rules and regulations while operating company vehicles.
- Maintaining accurate logbooks and adhering to key control requirements at all times.
- Ensuring good general housekeeping practices, including the regular cleaning of vehicles and distribution areas.
Plant Safety & Permit Management
- Adhering to all Plant Safety Requirements, including Permit Management and Compliance procedures specific to Sasol Secunda.
- Ensuring full compliance with Sasol’s SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) policies, procedures, and standards.
- Participating in and conducting on-the-job training and SAP transactional training as required.
Minimum Requirements
Formal Education:
- Grade 12 / Matric or N3 qualification with English.
- Valid Code C, C1, or EC1 driver’s licence.
- PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) — category P, G, or D where applicable.
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of relevant driving experience, preferably in an industrial, warehousing, or logistics environment.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communication skills — able to interact effectively with warehouse staff, supervisors, and site personnel.
- Action planning and task prioritisation — ability to manage multiple deliveries and meet tight deadlines.
- Sound decision-making ability, particularly in time-sensitive or safety-critical situations.
- Ability to manage complexity and work independently across multiple sites and routes.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations relating to road transport and industrial site access.
- Proven track record of accountability and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to multi-task effectively.
