REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualification in grade 12
- (preferentially in mathematics and physical science)
- Those who are 18 years of age or older must not be afraid of heights or cramped areas.
- Physically and medically fit;
- able to collaborate with others;
- and able to handle pressure
- No Criminal History
NOTE: All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake and pass the following compulsory fitness test:
- Test of reach (1.9 m)
- 4 km run (11 minutes for men and 13 minutes for women)
- 30 in 60 seconds of push-ups 30 in 60 seconds of sit-ups dead load transports two 25 kilogram barrels across a 100 m distance.
NOTE: Candidates who pass the physical test will:
- must successfully complete a written test and an interview, as well as provide their fingerprints or identification numbers so that criminal records can be checked.
- Any additional criminal clearances will not be accepted.
- be obliged to submit to a City medical assessment must pass an acrophobia and claustrophobia exam (fear of heights and tight spaces) and submit to a mandatory drug test at a city testing facility.
Special conditions attached to the post:
- Non-permanent contract position during training Only after completing the required training program—which includes passing the learning institution’s Firefighter 1NFPA 1001, Hazmat Awareness NFPA 1072, Hazmat Operations NFPA 1072,
- and First Aid Level 3 courses—will candidates be assigned to a permanent Learner Fire Fighter position.
- Wearing protective gear and a uniform is mandatory.
