Job Description

As our Loco Driver of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Respect all environmental, health, and safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Make an effort to keep the workspace tidy, ensure that safety signs are easily seen, and report any spills to help stop pollution and contamination. taking an active part in risk assessments, SLAM, HPH, and closing out safety actions.
  • Follow instructions to safely operate and control vehicles, equipment, parts, or materials.
  • When shunting, positioning for loading, and off-loading, follow the guidelines in the Loco regulatory authority manual and dispatch schedule to prevent spills and damage.
  • Weigh trucks and tanks, both full and empty, to precisely depict the amount of freight carried or transported.
  • Shunting and loading protocols followed by the certificate of competency
  • Weighbridge documentation Reports and comments
  • Timetable for transportation and dispatch As directed, move materials, equipment, and components safely to avoid injury or property damage.
  • Verify adherence to

  • Inspection of Pre-Shift Equipment:
  • To avoid damage, injury, and monetary loss, make sure that all necessary equipment is on hand and that an on-site safety and functioning inspection is conducted prior to starting the task, in accordance with regulations and prescribed standards.
  • Notify the supervisor of any variations in the equipment and components to make sure that the problems are tracked down and fixed.
  • Equipment cleanliness Equipment accessibility and dependability
  • Checklists for inspections Reported flaws Functionality of tying and strapping apparatus Help:
  • Communicate with the appropriate staff to set up support for the people and equipment needed to complete the work at hand.
  • Assist coworkers and the supervisor in accordance with their expertise and level, and abide by corporate policies when directed

 

This role is in Processing (PRO) department on a band P5 level reporting to the General Engineering Supervisor Rail

Qualifications

  • 12th grade/N3
  • Open Line Working Driver’s License Requirements:
  • In accordance with SAQA requirements,
  • Code EC1 (Heavy Vehicle) Diesel Certificate 34GE and 34GM class with Unit requirements Certification of Proficiency in Vacuum and Pneumatic Brake Systems
