KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Following established operating standards, deploy temporary road signs, traffic cones, and barricades at work sites to guide vehicles around any dangers or ongoing construction.
- Construct or fix concrete kerbing to provide a border between the pavement and the road.
- Construction and/or maintenance of stormwater kerb inlets (KIs).
- When required, help the crane operator or operators pull concrete slabs.
- When necessary, make sure KIs are cleaned and unblocked.
- Open the channel or clear the earth channel.
- Clean the proper equipment.
- Finish the remaining tasks on the inspection sheet.
- Address public grievances and concerns on the job site.
- Perform manual labour as instructed by standard operating procedures including but not limited to the following: dig ditches; clean and install culverts; remove debris from roadway and shoulders; repair potholes and /or cracked and broken pavement for patching.
- When needed, construct or replace road manholes and install stormwater pipes.

- Mow, cut, stack, and chip vegetation; transport vegetation and other garbage; load and apply sand and gravel to roads; trim trees, shrubs, and other plants. Loading and moving road materials, digging ditches, ripping asphalt, installing culvert pipes, backfilling trenches, cutting road grade, clearing brush and debris, widening roads, spreading paving materials, smoothing and leveling gravel roads, removing slides, contouring roads, spreading rock chips for the roadbed, and sealing roads are all tasks that fall under this category.
REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Grade 10 or NQF equivalent.
- Six (6) months’ experience in handling road construction maintenance and/or building machinery or equipment
