Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements
- Grade 10 to Grade 12 (or equivalent qualification)
Experience & Knowledge
- Knowledge of laundry or linen services (advantageous)
- Basic sewing skills (added advantage)
- Understanding of Batho Pele Principles (customer service in public service)
- Knowledge of hospital hygiene practices is beneficial
- Previous EPWP experience will be an advantage

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidates will perform a wide range of essential tasks, including:
Linen Collection and Handling
- Collect dirty linen bags from different hospital wards and departments
- Transport soiled linen safely to designated sorting areas
- Tie and label linen bags correctly according to procedures
Sorting and Processing Linen
- Sort linen according to type, condition, and contamination level
- Operate rinsing and washing machines according to guidelines
- Pack and organise clean linen within the linen bank
Laundry Operations
- Load and offload linen from laundry equipment and delivery trucks
- Ensure efficient processing of large volumes of linen
- Maintain workflow to ensure constant availability of clean linen
Repairs and Maintenance
- Mend torn or damaged linen using basic sewing skills
- Inspect linen quality and report defective items
- Participate in stock‑taking and linen inventory counts
Cleaning and Hygiene
- Clean and disinfect linen trolleys and work areas
- Maintain strict hygiene standards within the laundry unit
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Demonstrate understanding of:
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
- Ensure safe handling of contaminated linen
- Wear required protective clothing and equipment
General Duties
- Assist in other linen unit tasks as requested by supervisors
- Attend training sessions and departmental meetings
- Participate in performance management and development processes
- Follow all lawful instructions from supervisors and management
Working Conditions
- Physically demanding (lifting, standing, moving linen)
- Rotational duties within the laundry department
- Shift work including weekends and public holidays
