About the Role – Municipal Lorry Driver
The Lorry Driver position plays a critical role within the Community Services division, responsible for the transportation, removal, and handling of materials used in operations such as environmental cleaning, maintenance, and infrastructure support.
In addition to driving duties, the role involves supervising personnel, managing equipment, and ensuring operational efficiency to maintain a clean and safe environment in Region 6.
This position contributes directly to:

Job Purpose
The main objective of this role is to:
- Move and remove materials across operational areas
- Operate and manage municipal trucks and equipment

Minimum Requirements

Education
- Minimum Grade 10 qualification
Experience
- At least 6 months of relevant driving or operational experience
Licence Requirements
- Valid Code EC or EC1 Driver’s Licence
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)
Other Requirements
- Physically fit and in good health
- Ability to perform manual labour when required
- Willingness to work shifts and irregular hours
- Must undergo a criminal record check
- Must consent to fingerprinting by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (at own cost)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
As a Lorry Driver for the City of Tshwane, your core responsibilities will include:
Driving and Transportation
- Operate municipal lorries to transport materials and equipment safely
- Load and offload materials across designated areas
- Ensure materials are delivered efficiently and on time
Operational Support
- Assist with removal of waste, debris, and operational materials
- Participate in maintenance and environmental service activities
- Support teams in fulfilling daily operational tasks
Supervision of Personnel
- Oversee assigned workers in the field
- Ensure tasks are completed according to operational plans
- Maintain discipline and teamwork within the group
Equipment and Vehicle Management
- Ensure vehicles are properly maintained and in working condition
- Monitor the use of tools and equipment
- Report defects, breakdowns, or faults immediately
Health and Safety Compliance
- Adhere strictly to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993)
- Follow all safety procedures and municipal guidelines
- Ensure safety compliance during all operations
Working Conditions
- Work involves outdoor field operations
- Physically demanding tasks requiring stamina and strength
- Must be willing to work:
- Shifts
