Position Overview: General Worker (Cleaner)
The General Worker (Cleaner) position is a critical operational role responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic, safe, and compliant environment across all designated areas of the Preparation Centre. These areas include standard office spaces as well as specialised and sensitive environments such as the mortuary and Aquamation Centre.
This role requires strict adherence to health and safety regulations, hygiene protocols, and sanitation standards, while maintaining professionalism and sensitivity at all times. The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring dignity, infection control, and environmental compliance throughout the facility.
Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the General Worker (Cleaner) is to:
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the Preparation Centre

Key Responsibilities and Duties
General Cleaning and Office Hygiene
- Perform daily cleaning of floors, furniture, walls, and work surfaces using approved cleaning materials
- Apply routine cleaning procedures to maintain a tidy, hygienic, and professional office environment
- Ensure communal areas remain clean, safe, and presentable at all times
Bathroom and Sanitation Services
- Clean and disinfect toilets, basins, floors, and fixtures
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, and other hygiene supplies
- Ensure bathrooms are odour‑free, fully stocked, and compliant with sanitation standards
Waste Management
- Empty dustbins and waste containers daily
- Sanitize bins and surrounding areas to prevent contamination
- Dispose of waste responsibly in accordance with health and environmental regulations
Visitor Hospitality Support
- Prepare and serve refreshments for visitors as requested
- Handle refreshments professionally and hygienically
- Ensure refreshment areas are clean, well‑organized, and welcoming
Mortuary Cleaning and Hygiene
- Clean mortuary floors and working areas according to strict hourly schedules
- Sweep, mop, and disinfect surfaces to ensure a safe, infection‑controlled environment
- Follow all mortuary hygiene protocols to preserve dignity, safety, and compliance
Cold Room Maintenance
- Maintain sterile conditions in cold rooms by disinfecting and mopping every hour
- Sanitize work surfaces and contact points
- Record and monitor cold room temperatures three times daily
- Report temperature irregularities immediately to management
Equipment and Hygiene Supplies
- Clean and wash stretchers and stretcher covers using approved detergents
- Sanitise equipment following prescribed cleaning procedures
- Refill mortuary hygiene solutions by mixing chemicals accurately and safely
- Ensure continuous availability of sterilisation and sanitation supplies
Aquamation Facility Cleaning
- Clean and disinfect the Aquamation Centre daily
- Sanitize floors, equipment, and surrounding areas thoroughly
- Dispose of chemical cleaning solutions according to approved environmental procedures
- Maintain strict compliance with safety and environmental regulations
Medical Waste Handling
- Prepare medical waste correctly
- Ensure safe handover to approved waste disposal service providers
- Comply with all regulatory requirements for healthcare waste management
Stock and Supply Monitoring
- Monitor cleanliness and refreshment supply levels
- Report low stock levels to management promptly
- Refill refreshments and maintain neat consumption areas
Minimum Job Requirements
Qualifications
- ABET Level 4
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and write
- Must be able to speak and understand English
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow hygiene and safety procedures strictly
Experience
- 1 to 2 years of cleaning experience, preferably in a professional or regulated environment
Experience in healthcare, mortuary, or specialised facilities will be advantageous, though not essential provided the candidate is willing to learn and comply with strict operational standards.
