Position Overview: Shop Assistant / Cashier
The Shop Assistant / Cashier plays a critical frontline role in delivering service excellence and ensuring a seamless in‑store customer experience. This position focuses on point‑of‑sale (POS) operations, accurate cash handling, customer engagement, and merchandising, all of which contribute directly to store performance and customer satisfaction.

Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of this role is to deliver excellent customer service through efficient cashier operations, accurate scanning and payment processing, proactive promotion of the Clicks ClubCard, and high merchandising standards. By consistently meeting operational and service expectations, the Shop Assistant / Cashier contributes to Clicks’ promise that customers can “Feel Good and Pay Less.”
Key Job Objectives and Responsibilities
1. Point of Sale (POS) Operations
- Execute all point‑of‑sale activities efficiently and accurately
- Scan merchandise with precision and handle transactions confidently
- Process various payment methods, including cash and electronic payments
- Apply promotions and Clicks ClubCard rewards correctly
- Ensure compliance with all POS procedures and company policies
2. Cash Handling and Accuracy
- Handle cash safely and responsibly at all times
- Balance tills accurately at the beginning and end of shifts
- Prevent cash discrepancies and follow loss‑prevention procedures
- Maintain a high level of numerical accuracy to protect company assets
3. Customer Service Excellence
- Deliver friendly, professional, and efficient service consistently
- Act as a brand ambassador for Clicks
- Engage customers proactively and offer assistance when needed
- Resolve customer queries promptly or escalate when required
- Ensure customers feel welcomed, respected, and valued
4. Clicks ClubCard Promotion
- Proactively promote the Clicks ClubCard to customers
- Enroll new ClubCard members to achieve participation targets
- Explain ClubCard benefits clearly and confidently
- Support Clicks’ customer loyalty strategy through active participation
5. Sales and Promotions Awareness
- Inform customers about current in‑store promotions and offers
- Drive sales by promoting relevant products and deals
- Support store sales targets by enhancing customer awareness
6. Merchandising and Housekeeping
- Maintain merchandising standards according to store and visual guidelines
- Ensure shelves are stocked, neat, and well presented
- Perform general housekeeping duties to keep the store clean and organised
- Uphold Clicks’ visual merchandising standards consistently
7. Product Knowledge
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of products, ranges, promotions, and events
- Provide accurate information to customers at all times
- Stay informed through training and communication updates
