Purpose of the Role

The Security Officer position exists to protect, secure, and control access to the Nandoni Dam National Key Point by implementing stringent physical security measures, responding to security threats, enforcing relevant legislation, and ensuring compliance with national security standards.

The incumbent will provide armed security services, perform surveillance and monitoring, control access points, manage incidents, and ensure the protection of assets, facilities, personnel, and sensitive information.


About the Security Environment

Nandoni Dam is classified as a National Key Point (NKP) in terms of the National Key Point Act 102 of 1980, meaning it is considered critical to the Republic’s security, economic stability, and public safety. Security operations at NKP facilities require the highest level of discipline, professionalism, and legislative compliance.


Minimum Requirements and Mandatory Qualifications

Educational and Professional Requirements

  • NQF Level 4 Certificate
  • PSIRA Grade A registration
  • National Key Point Training Certificate
  • Firearm Competency Certificate

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Access Control and National Key Point Protection

  • Control the movement of people, vehicles, and goods entering and exiting the National Key Point
  • Verify authorisation and permit or deny entry strictly according to NKP regulations
  • Prevent unauthorised removal or introduction of equipment, documents, or materials

Surveillance and Monitoring

  • Conduct continuous surveillance of premises, access points, and security perimeters
  • Detect suspicious behaviour, threats, or breaches proactively
  • Ensure all security technology and physical barriers are effectively utilised

Incident Response and Law Enforcement

  • Respond promptly and decisively to all security incidents
  • Arrest unauthorised persons where legally required
  • Manage incidents in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act
  • Coordinate with SAPS or other authorities when necessary

Compliance and Incident Documentation

  • Record all incidents accurately in occurrence books and registers
  • Maintain compliance documentation for audits and inspections
  • Ensure reporting meets public‑sector and National Key Point standards

Communication and Reporting

  • Produce clear, concise, and legally defensible incident reports
  • Communicate effectively with management, security teams, and external stakeholders
  • Present security briefings and updates as required
