Purpose: The CLAIMS OFFICER is responsible to provide support to the Manager in the provision and management of the RAF litigated matters in the hands of the RAF Attorneys.
Position: Claims Officer
Reporting to: Manager — responsible for supporting the management and administration of RAF litigated matters handled by RAF Attorneys.
Key Responsibilities
1. Litigation File Management
-Conduct preliminary reviews and assessments of litigated files.
-Investigate, evaluate, and settle claims with technical proficiency and interpersonal skills to ensure fair, prompt resolutions and reduce legal costs.
-Reference complex or high‑exposure claims for reinsurance.
-Assess and settle claims involving loss of earnings, general damages (under both the old and new Acts), loss of support, funeral and medical expenses.
-Manage block settlements and determine appropriate assessors for merits and quantum reviews.
-Prepare court orders, writs, and bridge assessment reports, processing approvals as required.
2. Dispute Resolution & Escalation
-Identify and escalate litigious disputes, guiding them through pleadings per company policy.
-Verify and analyze settlement data to confirm disputes and ensure next‑step litigation aligns with established procedures.
3. Trial Preparation Support
-Collaborate with RAF Attorneys and legal counsel on trial strategy, ensuring required approvals are secured.
-Oversee compliance with High Court practice notes and evaluate all outstanding documentation.
-Review medico‑legal expertreports and propose settlements where appropriate.
-Maintain a six‑weekly diary system to track pending documents and progress.
4. Reporting & Settlement Authorization
-Monitor trial outcomes and out‑of‑court settlements.
-Re‑investigate questionable claims and advise on settlement or tender authorizations.
📚 Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in Law or equivalent (four‑year qualification).
-Admitted as an Attorney of the High Court or Advocate.
