Job Overview: Customer-Focused Retail Representative

We’re seeking a passionate and driven Retail Representative to join our team. Key Responsibilities & Daily Activities

1. Deliver Unmatched Customer Experiences

  • Consistently exceed customer expectations by using targeted selling techniques that align with individual preferences and needs.
  • Build rapport through warm, friendly engagement, offering helpful advice and product knowledge in a courteous manner.
  • Take ownership of each customer’s experience, ensuring every interaction reflects our dedication to world-class service.
  • Handle customer feedback effectively; report both compliments and complaints to management promptly.
  • Address customer inquiries and stock-related questions directly and resolve them in a timely, professional fashion.

2. Maximise Sales & Meet Targets

  • Achieve individual sales targets on a consistent basis, working toward both daily and monthly goals.
  • Proactively identify sales opportunities—whether suggesting add-ons, bundled products, or upcoming promotions.
  • Execute cross-selling and up-selling strategically, always keeping customer satisfaction at the forefront.

3. Cash Handling & Transaction Processing

  • Accurately process all forms of payment, including cash, debit/credit cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted methods.
  • Scan and process every outgoing item—be it stock, returns, or prescriptions—ensuring a smooth and accurate transaction.
  • Manage loyalty and partner loyalty card transactions, ensuring proper application of points and benefits.
  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and attention to detail in all financial transactions. Follow cash-handling protocols and adhere to guidelines to prevent stock loss.

4. Store Presentation & Visual Merchandising

  • Help create and maintain an inspiring store environment that attracts and retains customers.
  • Keep displays fresh, orderly, and visually appealing according to brand-recommended merchandising standards.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping—tidy shelves, clutter-free aisles, clean fitting rooms, and organized stockrooms.
  • Collaborate with the visual merchandising team to implement promotional features, seasonal displays, and brand-specific styling. Contribute ideas to make displays fresh and engaging.

5. Stock Control & Loss Prevention

  • Follow all stock-loss control protocols diligently to safeguard company assets.
  • Support regular stock receives, inventory counts, and store audits, helping to maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain an organized stock room and promptly report issues such as stock shortages, damages, or shrinkage.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • A Matric (Grade 12) certificate, or equivalent qualification.
  • Up to six months’ experience in a retail environment—this demonstrates foundational awareness of sales and customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of retail experience, with background in clothing, outdoor lifestyle goods, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • A solid understanding of current retail and apparel trends, particularly pertaining to fashion or outdoor-focused products.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Employment Conditions & Legal Requirements

  • Must consent to a background screening, including credit and criminal records check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa—SA citizenship required.
  • Candidates must be willing and available to work standard retail hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays (with notice).
