About the Role
The General Worker (Cleaner) plays a vital role within AVBOB’s Preparation Centre operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all assigned areas are kept clean, safe, hygienic, and compliant with strict health and safety standards. This includes standard office areas as well as specialised facilities such as the mortuary and Aquamation Centre.
This position requires a strong sense of responsibility, attention to hygiene protocols, and the ability to work with sensitivity and professionalism in environments that require dignity, discretion, and compliance with regulatory standards. The role is well‑suited to individuals who take pride in their work, can follow procedures accurately, and are committed to maintaining a clean and respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of cleaning, hygiene, and support duties, including but not limited to the following:
General Cleaning and Office Hygiene
- Perform daily cleaning of floors, furniture, desks, and work surfaces using approved cleaning materials and equipment
- Apply routine and deep‑cleaning practices to ensure a consistently tidy, hygienic, and professional office environment
- Maintain cleanliness in communal areas, offices, passages, and meeting areas
Bathroom and Sanitation Services
- Clean, disinfect, and sanitise toilets, basins, and bathroom facilities
- Refill toilet paper, soap dispensers, hand towels, and other sanitation supplies
- Ensure bathrooms remain clean, odour‑free, and fully stocked throughout the day
Waste Management
- Empty dustbins and waste containers regularly
- Dispose of waste responsibly in accordance with company and environmental guidelines
- Sanitise bins and surrounding areas to prevent contamination and odours
Hospitality and Refreshment Support
- Prepare and serve refreshments for visitors when required
- Maintain refreshment areas in a clean and organised state
- Monitor refreshment stock levels and notify the manager when supplies are low
- Refill and arrange beverages and refreshments to ensure ongoing availability for staff and visitors
Mortuary and Specialized Facility Cleaning
- Clean mortuary floors and working areas through sweeping, disinfecting, and mopping according to hourly cleaning schedules
- Maintain strict hygiene and infection‑control standards to ensure a safe working environment
- Clean and sanitise stretchers and stretcher covers using approved detergents and processes
- Refill mortuary hygiene and sterilisation solutions according to safety instructions
Cold Room and Compliance Duties
- Maintain cold room hygiene by disinfecting and mopping every hour
- Record cold room temperatures three times daily, accurately logging readings
- Report temperature irregularities immediately to management to ensure compliance and safety
Aquamation Centre Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning and disinfection of the Aquamation facility
- Clean equipment, floors, and surrounding areas to maintain sterile conditions
- Dispose of Aquamation cleaning solutions according to approved chemical and environmental procedures
Medical and Hazardous Waste Management
- Prepare and hand over medical waste to approved service providers
- Ensure waste handling complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- ABET Level 4 qualification
- Ability to read and write
- Must be able to speak and understand English
- 1–2 years of proven cleaning experience, preferably in an institutional, hospital, mortuary, or industrial environment
- Ability to follow hygiene protocols and safety procedures accurately
