Servest, a leader in the Integrated Facilities Management industry, invites suitably qualified and reliable applicants to apply for the position of Housekeeper/Laundry Person within the Catering Business Unit at VUP Village in Musina. This role forms a critical part of the guest experience, operational hygiene, and overall cleanliness standards at the facility. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Housekeeper/Laundry Person will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness across guest rooms, laundry areas, and designated common spaces. The role requires attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work with minimal supervision while upholding strict hygiene and safety standards.
2. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Educational Qualification:
- Grade 12 / Matric (essential)
- Experience:
- Previous experience in housekeeping, laundry services, or general cleaning within hospitality, residential, or commercial environments.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Strong attention to detail
- High level of cleanliness and hygiene awareness
- Good interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
- Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks
- Professional, polite, and tactful conduct
- Willingness to work night shifts when required
3. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 Laundry Services
The incumbent will manage the full laundry cycle to ensure a steady supply of clean, disinfected, and neatly presented linen, including:
- Washing all linen, towels, and staff uniforms according to prescribed hygiene and fabric care standards.
- Proper ironing and folding of linen to maintain professional presentation.
- Ensuring laundry rooms are kept clean, organized, and compliant with hygiene protocols.
- Managing the safe handling and use of laundry chemicals.
- Disinfecting floors, work surfaces, and laundry containers.
- Monitoring stock levels of detergent and laundry supplies and reporting shortages when necessary.
3.2 Housekeeping Duties
The candidate will ensure all guest areas meet cleanliness, sanitation, and comfort standards:
- Cleaning guest rooms thoroughly, including bed-making, dusting, sweeping, mopping, waste removal, and sanitising high-touch surfaces.
- Changing linens daily or as required and ensuring fresh supplies are always available.
- Cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, toilet bowls, sinks, and surrounding areas.
- Managing waste collection from guest floors and ensuring proper disposal methods are followed.
- Cleaning windows in rooms where screens are not installed.
- Inspecting rooms and reporting any maintenance faults or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Maintaining all cleaning equipment in good working order.
3.3 Guest Service Responsibilities
Upholding a professional and guest-oriented service culture is essential:
- Greeting guests courteously and responding to requests professionally.
- Providing assistance to guests when required, including ushering them to rooms or directing them to facilities.
- Ensuring guest interactions reflect Servest’s commitment to superior service standards.
- Maintaining personal presentation and professionalism at all times.
3.4 Operational Support
The Housekeeper/Laundry Person will support the wider operations team where required:
- Assisting senior supervisors with housekeeping-related tasks and operational duties.
- Ensuring high standards of cleanliness are consistently maintained in all common areas.
- Supporting housekeeping functions during peak periods, staff shortages, or special events.
- Adhering to all occupational health and safety standards to maintain a safe working environment.
- Working night shifts or extended hours as operationally required.
