1. Position Overview
The Driver position at Alert Engine Parts, part of the Motus Aftermarket Parts Division, is a critical operational role focused on the accurate, safe, and timely delivery of goods to customers. This role exists to ensure effective distribution of automotive parts while maintaining the highest levels of safety, customer service, and operational compliance. As an essential representative of the company on the road and at customer sites, the Driver must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strict adherence to company policies and procedures.
The incumbent will be responsible for transporting stock, adhering to established dispatch processes, maintaining delivery documentation, and ensuring that the company vehicle is always roadworthy and clean. This role requires an individual with excellent time management, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
2. Key Purpose of the Role
- To ensure the safe and efficient delivery of parcels and automotive components.
- To uphold the organisation’s delivery standards by following dispatch, loading, and proof-of-delivery procedures.
- To perform thorough vehicle inspections and immediately report defects or issues.
- To provide reliable service to customers and maintain positive business relationships through responsible driving and professional conduct.
3. Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 / Matric (Essential)
Experience
- Minimum 3 years proven delivery-driving experience in a commercial or operational environment (Essential).
- Previous experience in the automotive parts or retail operations sector will be advantageous.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid South African driver’s licence (Essential).
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) – (Essential).
- Clean driving record with no major traffic offences.
Skills & Competencies
- Good time management and punctuality.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with customers.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict delivery timelines.
- High levels of integrity, honesty, and responsibility.
- Strong focus on safety and adherence to traffic laws.
- Good navigation abilities and familiarity with Johannesburg routes.
- Ability to follow dispatch, loading, and POD (Proof of Delivery) procedures accurately.

4. Key Duties and Responsibilities
4.1 Vehicle Inspection & Roadworthiness
- Conduct full vehicle inspection before departure and upon return each day.
- Ensure inspection sheets are completed and submitted to the Dispatch Supervisor every Monday for sign-off.
- Immediately report any defects, mechanical issues, or safety concerns before operating the vehicle.
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and ensure it meets company standards.
4.2 Dispatch & Loading Procedures
- Collaborate with supervisor to verify all parcels before loading into the company vehicle.
- Strictly follow the New Dispatch Loading Procedure to ensure accuracy and prevent parcel misallocation.
- Ensure parcels are safely and securely packed to avoid damage during transportation.
- Load documents, delivery notes, and collection slips according to the trip sheet.
4.3 Delivery Operations
- Deliver parcels according to the designated route schedule and daily trip sheet.
- Ensure all customer deliveries are handled with professionalism and accuracy.
- Follow the Proof of Delivery (POD) procedure and ensure every delivery is signed off correctly.
- Ensure compliance with the Return for Credit (RFC) procedure when applicable.
- Return all signed PODs, documents, and slips to the POD clerk the following day.
- Acknowledge that any outstanding trip sheets are the driver’s responsibility, and liability will apply for missing PODs.
4.4 Documentation & Administration
- Ensure complete accuracy in all delivery documentation.
- Keep proper records of deliveries, collection slips, and returned goods.
- Maintain clear, organised documentation for reconciliation with the POD clerk.
- Report discrepancies, customer issues, or delivery challenges to the Dispatch Supervisor immediately.
4.5 Compliance & Conduct
- Drive in accordance with road safety regulations and company driving standards.
- Strictly adhere to all company policies regarding vehicle use, safety, and security.
- No unauthorised stock transfers or parcel exchanges between customer shops.
- Uphold ethical behaviour, professionalism, and customer-service values at all times.
- Assist customers respectfully and maintain positive business relationships.
4.6 Problem-Solving & Reporting
- Promptly escalate delivery issues, wrong addresses, POD disputes, delays, or customer complaints to the supervisor.
- Report all vehicle-related complications or safety hazards immediately to avoid operational disruptions.
- Provide feedback on route challenges, traffic risks, or delivery improvement opportunities.
5. Performance Indicators
- Compliance with inspection and safety procedures.
- Zero unresolved or missing PODs.
- Timely completion of all deliveries according to route schedules.
- Clean, well-maintained vehicle with no unreported defects.
- High customer satisfaction through professional conduct.
- Zero incidents of negligence, misconduct, or violations of company policy.
