Job Purpose

The Maintenance Worker / Handyman will carry out general repairs, routine inspections, minor installations, and day-to-day maintenance tasks across various commercial facilities. The role supports smooth facility operations by ensuring buildings remain safe, functional, and compliant with company standards. From fixing electrical fittings to repairing furniture, assembling flat-pack equipment, and addressing plumbing issues, this position requires multitasking, technical ability, and strong problem-solving skills.


Core Responsibilities

The Maintenance Worker / Handyman will be expected to perform the following duties:

1. General Maintenance & Facility Upkeep

  • Conduct routine building and equipment inspections.
  • Identify potential maintenance issues such as leaks, structural cracks, damaged fittings, or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance tasks to reduce downtime and prolong equipment life.

2. Minor Plumbing & Electrical Repairs

  • Fix minor leaks, replace faulty taps, unclog drains, and address basic plumbing concerns.
  • Replace damaged electrical sockets, install light bulbs and fixtures, and troubleshoot minor electrical faults.
  • Assist qualified electricians or plumbers when more advanced repairs are required.

3. Carpentry & Installation Work

  • Assemble flat-pack furniture such as tables, cabinets, shelves, and office equipment.
  • Install shelving units, office cupboards, and minor carpentry pieces as required.
  • Repair or adjust doors, door handles, locks, hinges, and window frames.

4. Painting, Drywalling & Surface Repairs

  • Perform touch-up painting or full-room paint jobs when needed.
  • Patch holes, cracks, and imperfections on walls, ceilings, or wooden surfaces.
  • Repair drywall, including installation of small sections or panels.

5. Equipment & Appliance Repairs

  • Diagnose and perform minor repairs on small appliances such as kettles, microwaves, coffee machines, and mini-fridges.
  • Ensure appliances are safe, functional, and well-maintained.

6. Tools & Equipment Handling

  • Operate various hand and power tools safely (e.g., drills, saws, grinders, hammers).
  • Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition.

7. Stock Control & Record Keeping

  • Monitor the stock levels of maintenance supplies (paint, screws, tools, cleaning materials, plumbing fittings).
  • Order supplies as required and keep accurate stock inventory.
  • Maintain clear documentation of work completed.

8. Professional Communication & Reporting

  • Interact with clients, tenants, or building occupants courteously and professionally.
  • Provide clear quotations or estimations for minor jobs.
  • Report major issues promptly to managers or relevant technicians.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Ability to use a wide range of tools (hand tools, power tools, measuring devices).
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building repairs.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift heavy objects (up to ±50 kg).
  • Comfortable working on ladders, in confined spaces, or standing for long periods.
  • Good stamina and physical endurance.
