JOB OVERVIEW – PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Driver Operator plays a crucial part in ensuring the safe transportation of municipal staff and equipment, effective maintenance of vehicles, and the smooth functioning of turf grass, stadium, and hard‑court maintenance operations.

This role involves working outdoors, operating municipal vehicles, ensuring adherence to safety standards, carrying out basic equipment repairs, and supporting the Sports, Recreation, Arts & Culture (SRAC) unit.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

The successful applicant will perform a range of essential duties to support the operational needs of the SRAC Department, including:

1. Transportation of Staff & Equipment

• Safely transport SRAC staff to various municipal facilities, sports fields, and project sites.
• Transport tools, machinery, turf grass equipment, and maintenance materials as required.
• Ensure that all transported items are securely loaded, handled, and delivered.

2. Vehicle Maintenance & Safety

• Conduct daily vehicle checks before and after use.
• Ensure all vehicles are kept clean, functional, and roadworthy.
• Report mechanical faults or maintenance requirements immediately.
• Ensure all vehicle log sheets are completed accurately and timeously.
• Comply with all municipal safety regulations and traffic legislation.
