POSITION OVERVIEW
Job Purpose
To perform general routine duties within the Bosman Street Workshop, ensuring that the facility is clean, safe, functional, and compliant with relevant regulations such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993).
The General Worker is a critical component of daily workshop operations and ensures that artisans, technicians, and other staff can work efficiently in a clean and hazard‑free environment.
APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
✔ Education
- Basic literacy (able to read and write)
- Grade 11 (advantageous and listed as a requirement)
✔ Experience
- Previous cleaning experience in a workshop environment will be a strong advantage.
- Experience handling workshop tools, drains, machinery cleaning, and general labour considered beneficial.
✔ Physical Requirements
- Must be physically fit and healthy.
- Able to lift, carry, push, and move heavy objects.
- Able to work in workshop conditions (noise, dust, oil, machinery).
✔ Screening Requirements
- Must undergo a criminal record check.
- Must allow fingerprinting by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) at own cost.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing the following key tasks:
1. General Cleaning of the Workshop
- Sweep workshop floors daily.
- Clean drains, pits, oil spills, and work benches.
- Remove debris, waste, scrap, and hazards from the workplace.
- Maintain clean and safe walkways for artisans and technicians.
2. Cleaning of Tools & Equipment
- Clean tools allocated to artisans after use.
- Ensure tools are washed, dried, and returned to storage areas.
- Report any lost, missing, damaged, or broken tools immediately.
This ensures proper tool accountability, which is essential in municipal workshop environments.
3. Adherence to Safety Legislation
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993).
- Identify safety hazards and report them promptly.
- Wear appropriate PPE when required.
- Support a culture of workplace safety within the workshop.
4. Execution of Supervisor Instructions
- Carry out tasks as instructed by the Supervisor.
- Work efficiently and professionally to support workshop operations.
- Assist with ad-hoc duties and labour-related responsibilities when needed.
5. Reporting & Communication
- Report any faults, defects, hazards, or operational challenges.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and workshop staff.
