As a Packer, you will support store operations by ensuring products are handled efficiently, shelves are replenished, and stock is packed correctly. Your contribution directly affects the store’s customer experience, product availability, and operational flow.
Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the accurate receiving, sorting, and packing of stock in the store’s receiving and sales areas. The Packer plays a crucial role in preventing stock losses, maintaining cleanliness and organisation, preventing damage to merchandise, and supporting efficient store operations. You will work closely with the Receiving Clerk and store teams to maintain stock integrity and ensure products are readily available for customers.
Minimum Requirements (Essential)
- Grade 12 / Matric
- A minimum of 6 months’ retail receiving or stock handling experience
- Basic mathematical ability for counting, quantity checking, and stock accuracy
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office)
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
Job Responsibilities
1. Stock Receiving and Verification
- Offload products and merchandise from supplier delivery vehicles with care.
- Verify that all delivered items correspond accurately with delivery notes and purchase orders.
- Ensure every item is allocated correctly according to store systems and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the Receiving Clerk to check, confirm, and record stock data.
2. Stock Handling and Damage Prevention
- Handle items carefully to prevent damage, breakages, or loss.
- Identify issues such as:
- Incorrect labels
- Damaged or expired stock
- Misplaced or incorrect items
- Report discrepancies immediately to the Receiving Clerk or store management.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment to reduce risk of injury or product loss.
3. Packing and Sorting Duties
- Sort and classify products by type, category, or department.
- Pack items onto pallets or shelves with precision to support accurate stock counting.
- Label products correctly, ensuring customers and staff can easily identify them.
- Replenish shelves efficiently to ensure product availability on the store floor.
- Assist with rotating stock, prioritising older stock (FIFO: first‑in‑first‑out).
4. Administration & Reporting
- Complete all required administrative documents relating to stock discrepancies, damages, or accidents.
- Follow Dis‑Chem SOPs when reporting incidents or recording stock‑related issues.
- Maintain accurate internal documentation to support audit requirements.

- Ability to read delivery notes, product labels, and stock documentation
- Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
