Purpose of the Job
The Driver provides essential logistical support by transporting mail, documents, equipment, medication, and staff safely and efficiently. The role ensures that the district meets operational demands, maintains seamless communication between facilities, and supports administrative functions through timely deliveries and collections.
Key Responsibilities

1. Mail, Document & Parcel Transportation
- Collect, deliver, and distribute mail, packages, documents, medical files, official notices, and related items between the district office and healthcare facilities.
- Verify documents prior to collection and ensure accurate delivery to designated recipients.
- Maintain a secure chain of custody for sensitive or confidential documents.
2. Transportation of Furniture & Assets
- Assist Facilities and Logistics teams with transporting furniture, office equipment, and redundant assets.
- Load and unload items safely, avoiding damage to property or vehicles.
- Deliver redundant assets to designated storage sites when required.
3. Transportation of Medication & Stock
- Transport medication, consumables, and other stock as requested by pharmacy units and supply chain departments.
- Adhere to safety protocols for transporting temperature‑sensitive or fragile medical items.
- Ensure accuracy when receiving and handing over medical stock.
4. Staff Transportation
- Transport staff and students to meetings, workshops, training sessions, and official functions.
- Plan routes to ensure punctuality and minimal delays.
- Maintain a professional attitude when transporting healthcare workers or officials.
5. Vehicle Care, Inspection & Maintenance Support
- Conduct daily inspections of assigned vehicles (oil, water, tyres, brakes, lights).
- Keep vehicle interiors and exteriors clean at all times.
- Report mechanical issues, defects, breakdowns, or accidents immediately.
- Take vehicles to Merchants or approved service centres for servicing and collection.
6. Operational Support & Coordination
- Assist Transport Officers when required.
- Maintain logbooks with accurate mileage, destinations, fuel usage, and trip records.
- Follow departmental driving policies, road safety regulations, and security protocols.
- Assist with emergency transport tasks if requested by management.
Minimum Requirements

- AET Level 4 (Grade 7 / Standard 5) OR
- Grade 9 report OR
- Grade 12 (Matric) – Advantageous
✔ Licensing Requirements
- Valid Code 10 (C1) Driver’s Licence – Essential
- Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit) – Essential
✔ Experience
- Minimum of 3 years driving experience
- Government or healthcare environment experience is advantageous
✔ Skills & Competencies
