Purpose of the Role

The Link Driver is responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently from the Rustenburg Depot to designated destinations. This includes:

  • Conducting daily vehicle inspections
  • Loading and off‑loading freight

  • Adhering to road safety regulations
  • Delivering products on time
  • Maintaining vehicle cleanliness and operational readiness

1. Vehicle Responsibility & Maintenance

  • Take full responsibility for the assigned heavy‑duty truck, trailer, and associated equipment.
  • Perform daily pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections including tyres, lights, brakes, fluids, coupling, and operational systems.
  • Identify and report mechanical issues, wear‑and‑tear, or faults immediately to the relevant workshop personnel.
  • Complete daily vehicle inspection sheets accurately and submit to the supervisor.
  • Re‑fuel trucks timeously and report any fuel irregularities.

A well‑maintained truck guarantees safety and reduces breakdowns.


2. Loading & Off‑Loading Duties

  • Load and off‑load pallets and various food products safely.
  • Assist with securing loads according to load‑restraint standards.
  • Check that all documentation matches the load (delivery notes, invoices, dispatch sheets).
  • Ensure goods are packed safely to prevent damage or contamination.

3. Documentation & Proof of Delivery (PODs)

  • Verify load quantities and product correctness before departure.

4. Road Safety Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to the Road Traffic Act and all national regulations.

  • Observe Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements (OHSA compliance).

  • Navigate routes confidently within Gauteng and surrounding areas, including regional or national routes as required.
  • Plan routes to optimize fuel usage, time efficiency, and safety.
  • Deliver goods within scheduled time frames.
  • Report road closures, delays, breakdowns or emergencies immediately.

6. General Housekeeping

  • Keep the vehicle clean (interior & exterior) at all times.
  • Ensure truck equipment (tarpaulins, straps, chains, pallets) is clean, functional and stored correctly.
  • Maintain professional appearance and hygiene.

7. Teamwork & Customer Relations

  • Maintain professional communication with dispatch coordinators, depot managers, warehouse teams, and receiving staff.
  • Represent the company professionally at client sites.
  • Handle customer interactions respectfully and efficiently.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Educational Level

  • Grade 12 certificate (Matric)

Driving Credentials

  • Valid, unendorsed Code 14 Driver’s Licence
  • Valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit)

Experience Requirements

  • 5–10 years truck driving experience, preferably with:
    • Scania
    • Mercedes Benz (M Benz)
    • MAN heavy‑duty vehicles
