Position Overview
Rand Water is seeking a dependable, safety‑focused Canteen Aide / Cleaning Operative. This position is integral to maintaining clean, hygienic, and safe environments across various areas, including the canteen, kitchen, administrative buildings, and HR offices. The successful candidate will perform scheduled general cleaning, assist with event setups, and ensure high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric)
- Experience: At least three years in a comparable cleaning role (e.g., office, canteen, industrial facility)
- Basic Computer Skills: Comfortable using digital systems for schedules, forms, or simple reports
- Communication: Clear spoken and basic written communication skills
- Technical Knowledge:
- Use and handling of cleaning chemicals
- Understanding of workplace health and safety standards
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Scheduled Cleaning Tasks
- Perform general cleaning at designated times according to a daily schedule.
- Tasks include sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping, emptying bins, cleaning surfaces, and disinfecting high-touch points across kitchen, admin, canteen, and HR areas.
- Kitchen & Canteen Upkeep
- Ensure kitchen and food-prep areas remain hygienic and free of contamination.
- Clean cooking equipment, counters, floors, sinks, and waste bins.
- Restock supplies (e.g., soap, towels) and empty waste receptacles as needed.
- Event & Meeting Support
- Assist in setting up meeting rooms, furniture arrangement, and general venue preparation.
- Support during conferences and off-site workshops by maintaining cleanliness standards before, during, and after events.
- Housekeeping & Safety Maintenance
- Keep all areas organized and free from hazards (spills, clutter, trip risks).
- Adhere strictly to chemical usage guidelines and safety procedures.
- Report needed repairs, supply shortages, or safety concerns promptly.
- Team Collaboration
- Work with fellow cleaning staff, kitchen personnel, and supervisors to achieve consistent standards.
- Communicate daily tasks, issues, and feedback effectively.
