Key Responsibilities

As a Code 14 Driver, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting daily pre-trip inspections of your vehicle to ensure it is roadworthy and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Delivering goods to clients or store locations in a timely and efficient manner, adhering to scheduled delivery routes and timeframes.
  • Reporting any mechanical issues, defects, or irregularities with the vehicle to your supervisor or fleet manager immediately.
  • Loading and unloading goods, securing all cargo properly to avoid shifting or damage during transit.
  • Verifying delivery instructions, checking addresses, and ensuring that each delivery matches the manifest or invoice.
  • Obtaining proof of delivery (POD) or signed confirmation upon completion of each delivery.
  • Practicing safe driving habits, strictly observing traffic rules, and avoiding behaviors that could lead to accidents or penalties.
  • Maintaining accurate records of fuel slips, delivery notes, invoices, mileage, and working hours for reporting purposes.
  • Ensuring vehicle compliance by checking that license discs are valid and displayed, and that tyres are correctly inflated for the weight of the load.
  • Keeping the vehicle clean, organized, and properly maintained, including regular sanitation and monitoring of cargo storage areas.
  • Immediately reporting any road incidents, accidents, or traffic violations in accordance with company procedures.
  • Accurately verifying the number and type of goods loaded and unloaded at each stop, and resolving any discrepancies where applicable.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following essential requirements:

  • A Matric certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • A valid Code 14 (EC) driver’s license.
  • A valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
  • Minimum of relevant experience as a Code 14 driver (long-distance or regional experience preferred).
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Must reside within 25km of the job location for practical commuting.
  • A clear criminal record and clean driving history.

Preferred Attributes (Not Mandatory)

While not required, preference may be given to candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizens are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Male candidates between the ages of 18 and 65 will be considered, in line with the current workforce needs.
  • Familiarity with different truck brands and the ability to operate a variety of vehicles.
  • Experience driving long-distance routes across provinces.
  • Understanding of vehicle maintenance procedures, including basic troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable using GPS and digital navigation systems.
  • Prior experience using different gearbox types (manual, automatic, or split).

Work Conditions

This role involves working under various conditions, including:

  • Long hours, often outside of regular business times, and in diverse weather conditions.
  • The need for physical strength and stamina, especially during loading and unloading activities.
  • Extended travel for long-distance deliveries, sometimes requiring overnight stays.
  • Strict adherence to road safety laws and company logistics policies.
