We are seeking dedicated and experienced Receiving Clerks to become an integral part of our team at a well-known grocery retail store. This is a permanent, full-time position, ideal for individuals who have a strong background in retail operations, stock control, and goods receiving.
As a Receiving Clerk, you will play a key role in ensuring that the receiving area operates smoothly, efficiently, and accurately. You will be responsible for managing the incoming flow of stock, maintaining quality control, and supporting warehouse operations in compliance with company policies and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
As part of the receiving department, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Unloading goods delivered to the store, using a forklift if necessary and if you are certified to do so.
- Inspecting all incoming goods to ensure they are free of visible damage, contamination, and correctly packed according to the delivery invoice and product specifications.
- Conducting Food Safety Temperature Checks as per the Food Safety Management System (FSMS), particularly for refrigerated or frozen goods, and recording this information accurately.
- Drawing up credit notes for any items that are damaged, missing, or not up to the store’s standards upon delivery. These will be processed in line with internal procedures and communicated to relevant suppliers.
- Receiving and checking all incoming shipments, verifying the quantity, product type, and ensuring they match the purchase order and invoice.
- Updating the inventory system with accurate data, including quantities received, discrepancies, and any necessary remarks or corrections.
- Coordinating with the warehouse team to promptly organize and move stock from the receiving bay to the appropriate storage or sales areas.
- Labeling and tagging incoming products, ensuring correct pricing and product information is affixed where applicable.
- Storing goods in accordance with company procedures, ensuring items are placed in their proper locations and handled according to their nature (e.g., dry goods, perishables, fragile items).
- Assisting with regular stock counts and inventory audits, helping to ensure the store maintains accurate inventory levels and reduces waste or shrinkage.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized receiving area in accordance with workplace safety regulations and hygiene standards.
- Following proper documentation procedures and ensuring all delivery notes, invoices, and credit memos are filed correctly.
- Reporting any supply chain or inventory issues to supervisors and assisting in resolving stock-related queries.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following minimum criteria:
- A Matric certificate (Grade 12) is essential.
- Relevant experience in receiving, stock handling, or general clerical work, particularly within a retail environment.
- Reside within 25 km of the job location to ensure punctuality and availability for shifts.
- A clear criminal record, as trust and reliability are crucial to this role.
Preferred Attributes
These qualities and experiences are preferred but not mandatory. Candidates who meet these may have an advantage in the hiring process:
- Candidates aged between 18 and 100 are welcome to apply.
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual labor such as lifting, carrying, and moving stock items.
- Forklift license or experience operating warehouse equipment (an added advantage).
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and basic computer literacy.
- Previous experience in grocery or food retail environments.
