Job Purpose

The Delivery Driver plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient, timely, and safe delivery of PepsiCo products to customers across designated routes. This position is responsible not only for transporting goods but also for maintaining accurate records, managing route finances, and upholding PepsiCo’s commitment to excellent customer service.

The incumbent will represent PepsiCo in the market, ensuring deliveries meet the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and professionalism while identifying and communicating opportunities to improve route efficiency and customer satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities

1. Delivery Operations

  • Deliver PepsiCo products to customers accurately and on schedule in accordance with assigned route plans.
  • Load and offload products safely, ensuring all goods are handled with care and stored appropriately during transit.
  • Verify products against delivery notes and ensure that all customer deliveries are complete and correct.
  • Obtain customer signatures and proof of delivery for all completed transactions.

2. Route and Time Management

  • Adhere to daily route schedules and ensure deliveries are completed within set timeframes.
  • Plan routes efficiently to minimize fuel usage, reduce delivery time, and ensure optimal coverage.
  • Report any route delays, vehicle breakdowns, or unforeseen circumstances that may affect deliveries to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and comply with all road traffic regulations at all times.

3. Financial Accountability

  • Manage and reconcile all cash and payments collected from customers as per company procedures.
  • Accurately record all transactions in the driver’s book and submit reconciliations at the end of each route.
  • Be accountable for all financial discrepancies, ensuring that all monies received are accurately reported and deposited as required.
  • Assist in minimizing route shortages, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial dealings.

4. Customer Service Excellence

  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service by representing PepsiCo professionally and courteously at all customer interactions.
  • Engage positively with customers to understand their needs, address queries, and provide feedback to relevant sales teams.
  • Identify potential gaps, opportunities, or areas of improvement in customer service or delivery processes and communicate these insights to the Sales Representative or Supervisor.
  • Promote a customer-first culture aligned with PepsiCo’s brand values and service standards.

5. Vehicle and Crate Management

  • Ensure that the delivery vehicle is inspected daily before departure to confirm it is roadworthy, clean, and loaded safely.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel usage, and any incidents or maintenance needs.
  • Ensure proper crate control — tracking and accounting for all crates issued, delivered, and returned.
  • Report any damage, theft, or loss of stock, crates, or equipment immediately to management.

6. Compliance, Safety, and Integrity

  • Adhere strictly to PepsiCo’s safety standards, occupational health regulations, and company policies.
  • Ensure all goods are delivered in compliance with food safety and quality assurance requirements.
  • Uphold PepsiCo’s commitment to ethical conduct and integrity in all professional interactions.
  • Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and professional presentation at all times.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12 / NQF Level 3 (Essential)
  • Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete an assessment as part of the selection process.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Valid Code 10 (C1) Driver’s License (Essential)
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) (Essential)

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Delivery Driver within an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) or logistics environment (Preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle route delivery operations, cash reconciliation, and customer interactions effectively.

  • Driving Proficiency: Excellent driving skills with full understanding of road safety and traffic regulations.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Ability to engage professionally with customers and maintain strong relationships.
  • Route Planning: Knowledge of local delivery areas, route optimization, and time management practices.
  • Numerical and Reconciliation Skills: Basic mathematical skills for balancing books, cash handling, and inventory verification.
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in product deliveries, cash management, and documentation.
  • Accountability: Responsible and dependable with a strong sense of ownership for assigned routes and assets.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and courteous communication with customers, colleagues, and management.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify challenges on route and propose practical, timely solutions.
  • Team Collaboration: Works effectively with sales representatives, warehouse teams, and supervisors to meet operational goals.
