Position Overview: Customer Services Clerk

The Customer Services Clerk serves as the frontline banking representative within Postbank’s partnered retail environments. The role focuses on assisting customers with banking transactions, particularly those transitioning from traditional branch banking to digital and assisted self-service channels, including ATMs, mobile banking applications, and USSD platforms.
Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of the Customer Services Clerk role is to support and guide customers through Postbank banking transactions while ensuring full compliance with operational policies, governance standards, and regulatory requirements such as KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) legislation.
The role ensures that customers receive a consistent, professional, and secure banking experience, while promoting the adoption of Postbank’s digital banking solutions.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Customer Service and Frontline Support
- Welcome customers and assess their banking and service needs
- Provide assistance with deposits, withdrawals, balance enquiries, redemptions, and book updates
- Authenticate customers using approved identification and verification processes
- Deliver a professional, courteous, and customer-focused service experience
Transaction Processing and Assisted Banking
- Initiate assisted banking transactions using approved Postbank devices and systems
- Generate and issue secure barcodes or OTP slips for cash-related transactions
- Confirm successful transaction completion through authorised operational platforms
- Manage failed transactions, expired OTPs, and account-related exceptions efficiently
Operational Compliance and Governance
- Ensure vouchers, transaction tokens, and documentation follow the correct lifecycle management process
- Complete and submit daily transaction reconciliations and operational reports
- Maintain accurate records and escalate discrepancies or risks where required
- Strictly adhere to data privacy, security, fraud prevention, and AML policies
Customer Education and Digital Enablement
- Educate customers on self-service banking solutions
- Assist with first-time digital banking activations, PIN resets, and device linking
- Promote digital literacy and reduce reliance on manual banking processes
- Support Postbank’s service quality standards and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
Essential Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) – compulsory
- Minimum of two (2) years’ customer-facing experience in banking, retail, or financial services
- Basic computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively in commonly used local languages
- Strong customer service orientation and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to different service locations
- Clean criminal record
Advantageous Qualifications
- NQF Level 5 or higher in Banking, Financial Services, Customer Management, or a related field
