The Gauteng Department of Health invites suitably qualified and motivated candidates to apply for the position of Transport Administration Officer within the Transport Directorate, based at the Gauteng College of Nursing (Krugersdorp). Purpose of the Position

The primary purpose of this role is to administer and coordinate state vehicle utilisation and transport-related records in line with government regulations, departmental policies, and applicable transport legislation. The incumbent will support operational efficiency by maintaining accurate records, monitoring vehicle compliance, and ensuring proper reporting of inspections, accidents, and asset registers.

This position is ideal for individuals with strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and an interest in logistics, fleet administration, or transport management within a regulated public-sector environment.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following core functions:

1. State Vehicle and Fleet Administration

  • Administer the daily utilisation of state-owned vehicles in accordance with approved transport policies and procedures.

  • Maintain and verify vehicle logbooks, trip sheets, and usage records to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Monitor vehicle inspections, servicing schedules, and roadworthiness requirements.

2. Record Keeping and Asset Management

  • Update and maintain vehicle asset registers to ensure all departmental vehicles are correctly recorded and accounted for.

  • Capture and verify transport-related data using approved computer systems and record-keeping platforms.

  • Ensure accurate filing, storage, and retrieval of transport documentation.

3. Accident and Incident Reporting

  • Assist with the administration of vehicle accident reports, including compiling documentation and ensuring timely submission.

  • Record incidents in line with departmental reporting standards and escalate matters where required.

4. Administrative Support

  • Perform delegated administrative duties within the Transport Directorate as assigned by management.

  • Support internal stakeholders with transport-related queries and documentation.

  • Assist in audits, inspections, and compliance reviews related to fleet operations.

5. Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure that all transport activities adhere to transport legislation, public service regulations, and departmental policies.

  • Support compliance with occupational health and safety requirements relating to vehicle use.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Educational Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate (Matric) or equivalent qualification

  • A qualification in Logistics, Transport Management, or a related field will be an added advantage

Experience

  • Zero (0) to two (2) years’ relevant experience in transport administration, logistics support, fleet management, or general administration

Licensing

  • A valid driver’s licence is required

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Technical Knowledge

  • Understanding of transport and fleet management legislation

  • Knowledge of record keeping systems and administrative procedures
