These positions support some of Gauteng’s busiest grant service areas, serving thousands of beneficiaries who rely on SASSA for essential financial support.
Purpose of the Position
The purpose of the Grants Administrator (Level 05) role is to provide efficient, accurate, and client-centred grant administration services in accordance with the Social Assistance Act, SASSA policies, and Batho Pele principles. Successful candidates will ensure that social grant applications are processed correctly and timeously, safeguarding both public funds and beneficiaries’ livelihoods.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Grant Customer Care Services
As a Grants Administrator, you will serve as the first point of contact for grant applicants and beneficiaries. Your responsibilities will include:

Providing clear, accurate information on available social grants

Explaining eligibility criteria and application requirements

Assisting clients with enquiries regarding grant status and payments
-
Offering professional, empathetic, and respectful service at all times
Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence are essential, as many clients depend on social grants for survival.
2. Screening and Capturing of Grant Applications
You will be responsible for ensuring that all grant applications are accurately screened and captured on SASSA systems. This includes:

Verifying supporting documentation

Capturing new applications and beneficiary information

Updating and maintaining existing beneficiary records

Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and audit requirements
Accuracy is critical, as errors may result in payment delays or incorrect grant decisions.
3. Medical Bookings and Assessments
For grants requiring medical verification (e.g. Disability Grants), you will:

Arrange and manage medical bookings

Administer medical assessment documentation

Ensure all medical processes comply with SASSA policies and legislation
4. Off-Site and Outreach Grant Services
SASSA regularly conducts community outreach programmes to reach vulnerable populations. You may be required to:

Assist communities in rural, peri-urban, and under-resourced areas

Work at clinics, community halls, or temporary service points

5. Scanning, Batching, and Record Management

Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualification
Applicants must be in possession of an undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 6), recognised by SAQA, in one of the following fields:

👉 Qualifications from TVET colleges or private institutions must be SAQA-recognised at NQF Level 6.
