Job Purpose

The role of Picker/Packer/Checker (Order Well) is to ensure that customer orders are correctly assembled, checked, and packed with absolute accuracy. Since UPD distributes pharmaceutical products, precision is essential to ensure patient safety, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.

This position requires strong attention to detail, ability to follow strict procedures, and commitment to meeting picking and packing standards within tight timelines.


Key Job Objectives & Responsibilities

The Picker/Packer/Checker will perform a combination of warehousing duties, including picking stock, packing completed orders, checking accuracy, maintaining stock traceability, and ensuring compliance with UPD standards.

1. Order Assembly & Picking

  • Accurately assemble customer orders based on pick slips or digital picking systems.
  • Ensure that the correct products, quantities, batch numbers, and expiry dates are picked each time.
  • Follow FEFO (“First Expired, First Out”) and pharmaceutical stock‑rotation principles.

2. Product Checking & Verification

  • Check that each order is complete and accurate before packing.
  • Record and correct any errors immediately and report discrepancies to the Warehouse Supervisor.
  • Maintain batch traceability, an essential requirement for pharmaceutical compliance.

3. Damaged Stock Management

  • Identify damaged, expired, or incorrect stock.
  • Remove unsuitable products from orders.
  • Record damages and send items to stock control for processing.

4. Packing & Labelling

  • Ensure packers use correct materials for packaging orders.
  • Apply warning labels, safety stickers, and documentation where required.
  • Confirm the correct sealing of boxes, crates, or containers.
  • Ensure excess stock is returned and packed away at end of shift.

5. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Retain all pick slips for audit and reference purposes.
  • Complete documentation accurately and ensure records comply with UPD SOPs.
  • Follow all procedures relating to order assembly, stock rotation, and pack verification.

6. Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to UPD Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain pharmaceutical warehouse hygiene guidelines.
  • Work safely with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines.
  • Comply with all warehousing and pharmaceutical regulatory standards.

Minimum Requirements

UPD requires the following qualifications, experience, and skills for the Picker/Packer/Checker role:

Education

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 3 (Essential)

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in pharmaceutical, FMCG, retail, or warehouse operations.
  • Prior experience in UPD outbound operations is highly advantageous.

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Basic Excel skills (data entry, viewing stock sheets, simple formulas).
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good administrative accuracy when recording data.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with little to no supervision.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the Termlite in-house warehouse system is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with UPD SOPs for order assembly, packing, and checking will be an advantage.
