Purpose of the Job

The General Worker plays a critical role in supporting efficient factory operations by ensuring production equipment is operated correctly, cleanliness is maintained, safety standards are followed, and production quality is upheld. This position supports the team by performing vital factory tasks that ensure continuous, safe, and compliant operations.


Key Responsibilities (Expanded & SEO‑Optimized)

As a General Worker at Tiger Brands, your daily responsibilities will include:


1. Operating and Supporting Production Equipment

  • Assist machine operators with running equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure machines are started, stopped, and monitored correctly.
  • Support equipment setup during production runs.

Proper machine operation is crucial for maintaining product quality and production efficiency.


2. Adhering to HACCP and Food Safety Standards

  • Maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in all work areas.
  • Ensuring contamination risks are prevented.
  • Applying food‑safe handling practices consistently.

3. Monitoring Production and Identifying Corrective Actions

  • Assist in identifying deviations in processes, equipment, or product quality.
  • Report abnormalities immediately to the Supervisor.
  • Help recommend or support corrective actions when required.

Proactive reporting ensures quality products and minimizes downtime.


4. Reporting and Recording Production Data

  • Report all forms of waste or product loss.
  • Conduct relevant checks according to production requirements.
  • Accurately record equipment downtime, delays, or machine stoppages.
  • Maintain detailed and correct documentation as part of the production process.

Accurate records allow the plant to track efficiency, reduce waste, and improve performance.


5. Maintaining Clean and Safe Work Areas

  • Clean production equipment, tools, and work surfaces regularly.
  • Ensure the work area meets hygiene and factory standards.
  • Rectify hygiene issues promptly and report any persistent problems.
  • Follow safety regulations and report unsafe practices immediately.

Cleanliness and safety ensure smooth production and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the General Worker position at Tiger Brands, applicants must have:

Education

  • Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science, or
  • A 3‑year tertiary qualification (NQF 6)

Assessment Requirements

  • Successful completion of a placement assessment

Compliance

  • Clean criminal record
  • Medically fit for factory and production work

Shift Requirements

This role requires flexibility and availability to work:

  • Rotating shifts
  • Overtime
  • Weekends and public holidays
