This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to grow within a world‑class industrial environment, gain technical exposure, and contribute to one of the largest coal‑to‑liquid facilities in the world.

Sasol’s Secunda Operations (SO) is home to globally recognised technology — including Sasol’s Fischer‑Tropsch process — producing synthetic fuels, pipeline gas, syngas, and chemical feedstock. As part of this critical operation, the General Worker role plays a key function in maintaining plant availability, efficiency, and safety.

Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure continuous plant availability by providing hands‑on assistance with the maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of HVAC systems and related equipment. This role supports artisans, technicians, and maintenance teams in ensuring operational readiness, equipment reliability, and compliance with safety standards.

The General Worker in this environment is essential for maintaining clean, functional, and safe HVAC facilities, plant rooms, cooling towers, and related infrastructure.

🔧 Key Responsibilities (Fully Expanded & SEO‑Optimized)

The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties, including:

1. Safety and Good Housekeeping

Sasol places safety at the core of all operations. Responsibilities include:

  • Adhering to SHE (Safety, Health and Environmental) policies and procedures
  • Reporting unsafe conditions immediately
  • Maintaining clean, hazard‑free work areas
  • Practising safe lifting, tool use, and equipment handling

Strong housekeeping ensures operational reliability and contributes to Sasol’s world‑class safety record.

2. Maintenance of HVAC Systems

The General Worker will assist with:

  • Routine inspection and cleaning of HVAC units
  • Supporting teams with minor maintenance tasks
  • Ensuring equipment areas remain organized and accessible
  • Assisting artisans with mechanical tasks under supervision

Maintaining HVAC systems is crucial for temperature regulation, equipment protection, and personnel safety.

3. Cleaning and Upkeep of Equipment

Key tasks include:

  • Washing HVAC filters and units
  • Cleaning cooling towers, plant rooms, and ventilation spaces
  • Removing debris, spills, and buildup that affects airflow and performance

These tasks directly support HVAC efficiency and equipment lifespan.

4. Painting and Surface Preparation

To preserve equipment and prevent corrosion, the worker will:

  • Sand HVAC units and metal components
  • Apply protective paint or coatings
  • Prepare surfaces for maintenance tasks

This work helps extend equipment lifespan and prevent structural damage.

5. Storeroom and Yard Maintenance

  • Cleaning HVAC yards, storage areas, and equipment zones
  • Ensuring storage areas are neat, labelled, and compliant
  • Assisting with the movement of parts, tools, and materials

6. Handling Tools and Equipment

  • Carrying tools and equipment safely (within allowable kg limits)
  • Using hand tools and power tools under supervision
  • Setting up tools and equipment required by artisans

7. Operating High‑Pressure Machines

  • Operating mobile WAP high‑pressure machines for cleaning HVAC components and surrounding areas
  • Ensuring the safe use and transportation of the WAP machine on a trailer

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following:
