The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is seeking a detail‑oriented, reliable, and highly organised Data Capturer to support the Office of the Executive Mayor within the Leader of Executive Business (LOEB) branch. This is a performance‑based fixed‑term contract aligned to the current political term of office, offering an opportunity to contribute directly to the governance and functioning of Africa’s most influential metropolitan municipality.

As the heartbeat of local government administration, the Office of the Executive Mayor plays a critical role in strategic planning, community development oversight, council programming, and executive functions. The Data Capturer will ensure accurate, timely, and secure data input into various City systems — supporting committees, clusters, MMCs, council operations, service-delivery tracking, and governance reporting.


Purpose of the Job

The Data Capturer will be responsible for capturing, processing, updating, and maintaining accurate information on multiple City of Johannesburg systems. The role requires precision, confidentiality, the ability to meet strict deadlines, and consistency in supporting the administrative workflow of the Executive Mayor’s office.

This position is ideal for individuals with administrative experience, strong computer literacy, and a passion for public service data management.


Key Responsibilities (Expanded & SEO‑Optimized)

Your duties will include the following core functions:


1. Data Capturing on Multiple City Systems

  • Capture complex information received from Cluster Departments, Mayoral Committee, Section 79 Committees, Programming Committee, and full council.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of all captured data across systems used by the City of Johannesburg.
  • Manage real‑time updates for executive and governance processes.

2. Tracking MMC Regional Tours & LOEB‑Related Issues

  • Capture all issues arising from Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) regional tours.
  • Follow up on matters requiring LOEB intervention or executive attention.
  • Monitor issue‑progress logs and ensure alignment with service‑delivery expectations.

This supports transparency, accountability, and efficient performance monitoring.


3. Compliance with Data‑Capturing Standards

  • Adhere strictly to CoJ’s minimum capturing requirements and timeframes.
  • Maintain consistent data quality, format accuracy, and systematic structure.
  • Uphold confidentiality and integrity of sensitive municipal information.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following:

Education

  • Matric / Grade 12 (Essential)

Experience

  • 1 to 2 years relevant administrative or data‑capturing experience

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal communication
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Intermediate computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, data systems)
  • Ability to quickly learn City data systems
