The City of Tshwane’s Department of Health is seeking dedicated, hardworking, and physically fit General Workers to provide cleaning, maintenance, and support services at various Primary Healthcare Clinics across Tshwane. With 5 positions available, this is an opportunity to contribute directly to the health and well‑being of communities by ensuring clinical environments remain clean, hygienic, and operational.

Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to:
- Provide cleaning and hygiene services at primary healthcare facilities
- Support basic health, safety, and security functions
- Assist with shifting and carrying of equipment, materials, and items
- Contribute to the safe, smooth operation of clinic environments
This role helps ensure that clinics remain safe, clean, and welcoming for patients, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities (Expanded & SEO‑Optimized)
As a General Worker in Primary Healthcare Management, your duties will include:
1. Cleaning & Hygiene Services
You will support clinical hygiene and infection control by:
- Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and disinfecting clinic floors
- Cleaning patient waiting areas, consultation rooms, corridors, toilets, and outdoor spaces
- Emptying dustbins and disposing of waste according to health standards
- Ensuring all windows, doors, and surfaces are kept clean and dust‑free
- Reporting any cleaning material shortages to supervisors
A clean clinic ensures safer environments for patients and staff.
2. Shifting, Carrying & Physical Support Tasks
General Workers assist with various physical tasks, including:
- Moving furniture, clinic records, supplies, and equipment
- Assisting staff with loading/unloading stock or clinic materials
- Supporting setup for outreach programmes or mobile clinics
- Handling deliveries and distributing supplies within the facility
Physical fitness and stamina are essential.
3. Health, Safety & Security Support
- Assist in identifying safety risks within the clinic premises
- Report hazards such as spills, broken equipment, or safety issues
- Ensure doors, gates, and restricted areas remain secured
- Support emergency cleaning and urgent facility needs
You help maintain a safe environment for patients and healthcare workers.
Appointment Requirements
To be considered for the position, applicants must meet the following:
Education
- Ability to perform duties
- Basic literacy (reading and writing)
- Grade 10 or equivalent is acceptable
Experience
- Previous cleaning or general worker experience is an advantage
- Experience in healthcare cleaning environments is beneficial
Compliance Requirements
- Must undergo a criminal record check
- Must allow fingerprinting by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (at own cost)
- Must be physically fit and healthy
- Must be willing to work in any facility across Tshwane as assigned by management
