Purpose of the Role

The General Worker (Driver’s Assistant) plays a vital role in the efficiency and accuracy of Montego’s inbound and outbound logistics operations. The role ensures the safe loading, unloading, stacking, handling, and movement of stock while supporting the delivery driver on routes, documentation handling, and customer delivery processes.

The candidate must be physically fit, safety‑aware, organised, and capable of maintaining high standards even under pressure.

Key Responsibilities 

Below is a detailed breakdown of duties to maximise search engine visibility and enhance clarity:

1. Loading & Offloading of Stock

• Load products onto trucks with care and precision.
• Ensure stock is packed, positioned, and balanced to prevent damage or load shifts.
• Check stock for visible damage before loading.
• Offload stock according to the Proof of Delivery (POD).
• Confirm accuracy of loaded and offloaded items according to documentation.

Proper loading prevents transit damage and ensures safe transportation.

2. Returns Management

• Pack returned items neatly and securely.
• Record and organise returns to avoid mixing with new stock.
• Support warehouse supervisors in processing returns efficiently.

3. Driver Assistance

• Assist driver with documentation, PODs, delivery notes, and customer interactions.
• Keep the truck clean, tidy, and professionally presented.
• Help secure goods in the truck during deliveries and long-distance routes.
• Navigate and assist with identifying delivery locations if required.

This ensures smooth route performance and customer satisfaction.

4. Stock Picking & Stacking

• Pick stock accurately according to order lists and warehouse procedures.
• Ensure that no damaged or incorrect items are sent out.
• Stack stock neatly, following load‑bearing and safety guidelines.
• Know the warehouse layout and product arrangement for efficient picking.

5. Safety Compliance

Follow all Safe Working Procedures and Food Safety Standards (FSSC 22000):

• Wear PPE at all times.
• Practice correct lifting and carrying techniques.
• Avoid unsafe shortcuts and report hazards immediately.
• Ensure truck loading follows safety regulations.

6. Housekeeping & Maintenance

• Keep work areas clean, organised, and free of hazards.
• Perform truck housekeeping duties, including sweeping, wiping, and dusting.
• Assist in maintaining warehouse cleanliness to ensure compliance with hygiene requirements.

7. Flexibility & Additional Duties

• Assist in other departments if required.
• Take on extra duties during peak periods.
• Work beyond normal hours when operational demands require it (early mornings, late nights, overnight stays).

Job Requirements

✔ Educational Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric (NQF Level 4) – Essential.

✔ Experience

• Experience in stock loading, warehouse handling, or FMCG operations is highly advantageous.
• Exposure to heavy lifting, manual labor, or driver‑assistant roles is beneficial.

✔ Licenses (Optional but Beneficial)

• Code 10 or 14 driver’s license – Advantage, not required.
