**Job Purpose**
To perform critical activities to ensure the work area is declared safe for the workforce, maintaining high safety standards and operational efficiency in an open pit mining environment.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Effective People Management**
– Plan and manage crew activities, providing clear instructions and feedback
– Communicate management instructions and maintain daily attendance registers
– Manage leave rosters and schedule training to avoid equipment downtime
– Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
– Address unsafe practices and report to the foreman
**Functional Duties**
– Inspect work areas and record deviations in the safety declaration book
– Ensure all equipment is assigned operators and shift changes follow procedures
**Inspection and Control**
– Verify operators complete daily pre-use equipment checks and inspection books
– Review and sign pre-use inspection books each shift
– Ensure operators have necessary documentation for compliance
**Operational Optimization**
– Adhere to operational schedules and optimize resource use (people and equipment)
– Track equipment utilization and shift production targets
– Identify and report areas for improvement
**Operational Support**
– Assist the foreman and team with tasks as requested
– Oversee and control area operations, ensuring quality and adherence to standards
– Monitor processes, conduct inspections, and rectify substandard performance
– Interpret and communicate operational plans and production targets
**Safe and Healthy Work Environment**
– Promote good housekeeping and adhere to health, safety, and environmental practices
– Address unsafe conditions and report to superiors
– Comply with SHEC and technical requirements, wearing appropriate PPE at all times
**Minimum Requirements**
**Qualifications**:
– Grade 12/Standard 10 Technical (Essential)
– Certificate Mine Blasting (Essential)
– Skills Program: Competent Person A (Essential)
– Skills Program: Gas Testing (Essential)
– Certificate: Basic Management Program (Essential)
**Experience**:
– 2-3 years as an operator in an open pit mining environment (Essential, Operational)
**Other Requirements**:
– Psychometric Assessment (Essential)
– Certificate of Fitness (Essential)
