Purpose of the Programme

The Retail Cosmetics Learnership is designed to provide structured learning combined with practical workplace experience. It is tailored for individuals looking to build a future in cosmetic retail, including:

  • Stock control and merchandising in cosmetics departments
  • Providing outstanding customer service
  • Promoting and demonstrating a wide range of beauty products
  • Learning the fundamentals of visual presentation and personal selling

Participants will receive hands-on training while completing formal learning components. The programme also includes opportunities to engage in cosmetic demonstrations, makeup sessions, brand training, and promotional events.


Key Responsibilities

1. Stock Control & Inventory Management

  • Maintain optimal stock levels on the shelves; ensure products are not past expiry.
  • Assist with stock takes, counting, and inventory audits.
  • Ensure storerooms are neat, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Monitor product rotation to minimize losses from expired stock.
  • Report all issues related to damaged, expired, or missing items to store management.
  • Assist in replenishing shelves to ensure all key products are always available.
  • Flatten packaging and boxes and dispose of them as per store policy.

2. Merchandising & Product Display

  • Uphold high standards of visual merchandising in window and store displays.
  • Present product displays in a clean, creative, and engaging manner.
  • Participate in cosmetic demonstrations, promotional makeovers, and vendor events.
  • Label all products correctly with up-to-date pricing and product details.
  • Adhere to product layout and facing guidelines.
  • Monitor and maintain brand-specific merchandising requirements.
  • Ensure promotional materials are accurately displayed and removed on time.
  • Support store teams with off-loading and unpacking new cosmetic deliveries.

3. Customer Engagement & Sales Support

  • Provide professional, courteous, and friendly service to all customers.
  • Assist customers in identifying products that suit their needs—without pressuring them to switch brands.
  • Address and resolve customer stock or product inquiries effectively.
  • Accurately process transactions at the Cosmetics Department Point of Sale (POS).
  • Work collaboratively to meet brand and vendor sales targets.
  • Build strong customer relationships by listening attentively and responding knowledgeably.
  • Remain updated on product benefits, new releases, and cosmetic trends.

Minimum Entry Requirements

To be considered, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate is essential
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have a clear criminal and credit record (MIE screening)
  • Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
  • Availability to work flexible shifts
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
