About the Role

Midvaal Local Municipality is seeking a dedicated, professional, and community-focused Law Enforcement / Peace Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have the skills, discipline, and integrity to enforce the law, prevent crime, protect citizens, and maintain order in our community. This role requires a highly motivated individual who can work under pressure, make sound decisions, and build trust with the public.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education:
    • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate (mandatory)
    • Higher Certificate in Policing or equivalent qualification in Law Enforcement (mandatory)
    • Diploma in Policing (advantageous)
  • Licences & Certifications:
    • Valid Driver’s Licence (mandatory)
    • Peace Officer Certificate (advantageous)
    • Proficiency Certificate for the Handle and Use of a Handgun for Business Purposes (SAPS 96)
  • Technical Skills:
    • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience:
    • 2–3 years’ experience in Government or Local Government Authority as a Law Enforcement or Peace Officer
  • Personal Attributes:

    • High level of self-discipline and motivation
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Law Enforcement & Crime Prevention

  • Protect citizens by enforcing municipal by-laws and applicable legislation
  • Conduct regular patrols to deter and detect criminal activity
  • Apprehend suspects in response to complaints, violations, and emergencies
  • Respond to stolen or hijacked vehicle alerts activated via Tracker SA
  • React promptly to SNIPR (Special Number Plate Recognition) notifications from the control room

Incident Management & Investigations

  • Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects to gather information
  • Write citations, deliver warrants, and serve commitments
  • Prepare and provide accurate reports documenting incidents and activities
  • Testify in court as required, providing factual and professional evidence

Logistics & Reporting

  • Record observations and actions via radio communication and written reports
  • Maintain accurate, detailed incident logs and case documentation
  • Fulfil court orders, serve warrants, and assist in judicial processes

Operational Support

  • Order, collect, and manage operational equipment and resources
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment
  • Evaluate new equipment and operational techniques for efficiency

Community Engagement

  • Act as a visible, approachable law enforcement presence in the community
  • Address public concerns promptly and courteously
  • Support public education on safety, law, and crime prevention initiatives

Ad Hoc Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
  • Provide assistance during special events, emergencies, or disaster response operations

Additional Information

  • The municipality does not reimburse travel costs for interviews or assessments, except for candidates travelling over 400km for positions on levels 1 to 4
