Introduction
The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is seeking dedicated and responsible individuals to join its facilities management team as Cleaners. These positions are vital to ensuring a hygienic, safe, and orderly working environment across multiple JICS regional offices. The successful candidates will play an important role in maintaining cleanliness standards, supporting operational efficiency, and contributing to a healthy workplace for both staff and visitors.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Minimum of Grade 10 or ABET (NQF Level 1–4) qualification.
- Work Experience:
- Relevant experience in a cleaning environment will be advantageous.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to operate cleaning machinery such as vacuum cleaners, urns, and floor polishers.
- Ability to read and write.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Listening and comprehension skills to follow instructions effectively.
- Organisational and planning skills to manage cleaning schedules.
- Good interpersonal skills to work within a team environment.
- Additional Requirements:
- A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The appointed Cleaner will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
1. Cleaning and Housekeeping Duties
- Sweep, mop, dust, and polish office areas, corridors, and common areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchens, restrooms, meeting rooms, and reception areas.
- Ensure waste bins are emptied daily and waste is disposed of according to policy.
- Clean windows, blinds, and glass partitions regularly.
- Remove cobwebs and maintain high hygiene standards throughout the facility.
2. Vehicle Cleaning and Maintenance
- Clean Government Garage (GG) vehicles assigned to the office.
- Ensure cleanliness both inside and outside the vehicles.
- Report any vehicle cleaning-related damage or issues to the supervisor immediately.
3. Equipment and Material Management
- Safeguard all cleaning equipment, ensuring they are well-maintained and stored securely after use.
- Report any faults or damage to equipment to the supervisor for repair or replacement.
- Order and replenish cleaning materials in consultation with the supervisor to ensure uninterrupted operations.
4. Compliance and Safety
- Follow all occupational health and safety regulations while performing cleaning duties.
- Use cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
- Ensure all walkways and work areas are free from hazards.
5. Ad-hoc and Support Duties
- Assist in the preparation of office spaces for meetings, workshops, or events.
- Perform additional cleaning or support tasks as delegated by the supervisor.
- Provide assistance in moving office furniture or equipment when required.
