Purpose of the Role
RCL FOODS is seeking to employ a highly detail-oriented and reliable Checker to join our Warehouse team in Randfontein. The role is responsible for ensuring that all inbound and outbound stock management checks are conducted accurately and in strict adherence to business policies, procedures, and quality standards.
This position requires an individual with strong attention to detail, sound communication skills, and a proactive approach to maintaining stock integrity, safety, and compliance in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Checking
- Accurately verify all picked and palletised stock across the warehouse before dispatch and loading.
- Ensure stock is correctly labelled with shipment numbers, properly positioned on pallets, and stored at the correct temperature to meet specifications.
- Identify, isolate, and remove damaged, expired, or non-conforming stock in line with company policies and food safety regulations.
- Inspect all incoming products for quality, accuracy, and adherence to quantity specifications.
- Enforce warehouse best practices and contribute to the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs).
2. Housekeeping
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organisation within the warehouse at all times.
- Ensure stacking is neat, secure, and compliant with safety requirements.
- Monitor and manage pallet boards and empty pallets, ensuring they are removed promptly from pick levels.
- Keep storage cages, floors, and walkways tidy and free from hazards.
- Care for cleaning equipment and ensure it is stored correctly after use.
3. Stock Control
- Ensure products are stacked and stored correctly, maintaining secure, logical, and safe arrangements (e.g., light on heavy).
- Conduct spot checks on dispatches to verify accurate loading and product handling.
- Monitor stock movement continuously to minimise shortages, surpluses, or incorrect loads.
- Prevent product damage during receiving, handling, and stacking.
- Support accurate stock rotation and adherence to First-In-First-Out (FIFO) practices.
4. Stock Count Preparations
- Assist with preparing the warehouse for scheduled stock counts.
- Isolate damaged stock and ensure all notes and reports are recorded.
- Facilitate accessibility to products for efficient and accurate stock counting.
- Conduct stock counts as directed by the Warehouse Supervisor or Coordinator.
- Report discrepancies, damages, or irregularities immediately to relevant stakeholders.
5. Loading Rate Maintenance & Monitoring
- Monitor and control the speed and accuracy of loading activities.
- Complete daily performance sheets, capturing time lost, challenges encountered, and other relevant data.
- Support efforts to maintain optimal loading rates without compromising safety or accuracy.
6. Occupational Health & Safety Compliance
- Comply with all company, legal, and regulatory health and safety standards.
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment, ensuring fire prevention, accident prevention, and adherence to proper job instructions.
- Take part in health and safety initiatives, reporting hazards or risks promptly.
7. Teamwork & Self-Management
- Take full ownership of assigned tasks and responsibilities, demonstrating accountability and initiative.
- Provide instructions to Forklift Drivers, Pickers, and Loaders in the absence of the Warehouse Coordinator.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet team objectives and operational deadlines.
- Uphold productivity and quality standards consistently.
- Escalate potential risks or missed deadlines to supervisors and propose corrective solutions.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Matric / Grade 12 certificate (essential).
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year’s experience in warehousing, stock control, or a similar operational environment.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in basic computer skills, including MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
