Job Purpose
The Stock Clerk is responsible for managing the flow of merchandise in and out of the stockroom while maintaining accurate inventory records. This includes receiving deliveries, verifying documentation, organizing stock securely, dispatching goods, and assisting with stock counts. The incumbent will ensure compliance with company policies and contribute to maintaining a well-ordered, clean, and secure stockroom that supports seamless retail operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Stock Receiving and Dispatching
- Accurately receive all incoming stock from suppliers or warehouse facilities.
- Verify quantities, descriptions, and conditions of goods received against delivery notes and invoices.
- Capture all stock movements in accordance with company procedures to maintain real-time accuracy of inventory records.
- Prepare and package stock for dispatch to stores, customers, or other branches as required.
- Ensure all dispatch documentation is correctly completed and filed for record-keeping.
- Report discrepancies or damaged goods immediately to the Stock Controller or Store Manager.
2. Stock Management and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date stock records using the store’s management system.
- Support cycle counts, monthly stock takes, and reconciliation processes.
- Ensure the correct rotation of stock based on FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles.
- Conduct spot checks to identify discrepancies and assist with corrective actions.
- Support the identification and documentation of slow-moving or obsolete stock.
3. Housekeeping and Security
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized stockroom environment at all times.
- Implement stockroom layout standards for accessibility, efficiency, and safety.
- Secure high-value and sensitive merchandise according to company security policies.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including the correct handling and storage of goods.
- Report any safety hazards or security breaches immediately to management.
4. Customer and Colleague Interaction
- Interact with customers in a professional and customer-centric manner when assisting with stock-related queries.
- Collaborate with store staff, merchandisers, and management to ensure accurate stock availability on the sales floor.
- Assist in replenishment of stock to maintain optimal merchandising standards.
- Display a positive attitude, teamwork, and support towards achieving store objectives.

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
- 1 – 2 years of experience in a stock clerk, warehouse, or inventory control role within retail or a related environment.
- Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of stock management systems or point-of-sale (POS) platforms.
- Understanding of receiving and dispatching processes.
