Introduction
South African National Parks (SANParks) invites applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals for three (3) Fixed-Term Contract positions of Data Capturer based at Table Mountain National Park. These positions form part of the park’s operational control and environmental law enforcement support structure. The successful incumbents will play a critical role in ensuring accurate data collection, processing, monitoring, and reporting to support strategic decision-making, conservation management, and safety and security operations within the park.

Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Data Capturer position is to ensure the accurate, efficient, and confidential capturing, management, and analysis of operational and environmental data from various sources. The role supports law enforcement, conservation operations, safety monitoring, and reporting by ensuring that real-time and historical information is properly recorded and accessible on relevant systems and platforms.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Data Capturing and Information Management
- Capture data accurately from multiple sources, including operational reports, field data, incident logs, and enforcement records onto Cmore and other approved software systems.
- Maintain the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of all captured information in line with SANParks’ information management standards.
- Regularly update databases to ensure that records remain current and reliable.
- Assist in compiling structured datasets for reporting and analysis purposes.
Operational Support and Monitoring
- Monitor live technology feeds and information systems within the Operations Room.
- Assist the Operations Room Control Officer with the coordination of logistics and deployments of the SEAM Team and other operational personnel where required.
- Support standard operational control measures aligned with safety, security, and law enforcement plans.
- Receive, log, and route operational reports and information to the appropriate units or officials.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Assist with the preliminary analysis of collected data to support reactive and proactive law enforcement interventions.
- Identify data trends and anomalies to support operational efficiency and environmental protection.
- Prepare basic statistical summaries and reports as requested by management.
Stakeholder and Administrative Support
- Support internal and external stakeholder liaison through accurate record-keeping and communication.
- Provide administrative support to the unit, including document management, filing, scanning, and record archiving.
- Assist with basic procurement administration and logistics documentation.
- Support internal training initiatives where required through data preparation and system access.
Compliance and Governance
- Operate in compliance with all relevant legislation, including:
- National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act
- National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act
- National Heritage Resources Act
- Integrated Coastal Management Act
- Marine Living Resources Act
- Public Finance Management Act
- Criminal Procedure Act
- Uphold SANParks’ governance, risk, and compliance standards at all times.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) or NCV Level 4 (Essential)
Experience
- Minimum of 1–2 years’ relevant data capturing or administrative experience
Technical Skills
- Intermediate to Advanced computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (computer assessments will be conducted).
- Proven ability to work accurately with large volumes of electronic and manual data.
- Understanding of data integrity, confidentiality, and record management principles.
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of environmental and operational legislation as listed above.
- Understanding of basic law enforcement support and environmental compliance processes is advantageous.
Added Advantages
- Environmental Management Inspector (EMI) designation.
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS or QGIS software.
- Valid Code 8 Driver’s Licence.

Security and Vetting Requirements
- Clear criminal record (mandatory).
- Willingness to undergo polygraph testing.

Remuneration
The remuneration package is aligned with Paterson Grade B3, and includes a basic salary plus benefits and allowances in accordance with the SANParks Conditions of Service.
