Key Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of the General Worker role is to ensure that all office spaces remain clean, tidy, organised, and hygienic at all times. The role contributes directly to employee wellbeing, operational efficiency, and the professional image of the branch. The incumbent will also assist with refreshments and basic office support activities as required.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

The General Worker will perform the following duties, among others:

Office Cleaning and Hygiene

  • Perform daily cleaning tasks to maintain high hygiene standards across all office areas.
  • Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors in offices, walkways, and common areas.
  • Dust office furniture, desks, shelves, equipment, and decorative items such as flowers.
  • Clean and empty waste bins and ensure correct disposal of refuse.
  • Wash office windows and ensure glass surfaces remain clean and streak-free.

Ablution Facility Maintenance

  • Clean and sanitise toilets, hand basins, sinks, and surrounding areas daily.
  • Refill toilet paper, hand soap, and hygiene supplies as required.
  • Ensure ablution facilities comply with health and safety hygiene standards at all times.

Kitchen and Refreshment Support

  • Prepare tea and coffee for staff and visitors when required.
  • Wash dishes, cups, cutlery, and dishcloths after use.
  • Refill tea, coffee, sugar, and related dispensers.
  • Refill water in the water cooler and ensure the area remains clean and orderly.

General Support and Compliance

  • Maintain cleanliness in line with company policies and occupational health and safety procedures.
  • Report maintenance issues, damaged equipment, or health hazards to the relevant supervisor.
  • Follow all safety instructions and use cleaning chemicals and equipment responsibly.
  • Perform any additional related duties as requested by management in support of branch operations.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: Minimum Grade 10 qualification.
  • Experience: Prior cleaning experience will be a distinct advantage.
  • Language: Ability to communicate in English will be a definite advantage.
  • Availability: Must be willing to work during standard office hours as required by the branch.
