Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the Office Cleaner role is to ensure that all office facilities are consistently maintained at a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for cleaning offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas while complying with health and safety regulations and company policies.

This role plays a critical support function within the organisation by creating a clean, orderly, and professional environment that enhances employee comfort, supports business operations, and reflects positively on the company’s brand image.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. General Office Cleaning and Hygiene

• Maintain cleanliness across all office areas, including workstations, meeting rooms, reception areas, kitchens, and restrooms
• Ensure cleaning tools, equipment, and materials are properly used, cleaned, and stored after use
• Report any maintenance concerns, damages, or safety hazards to the Office Administrator or designated supervisor
• Adhere strictly to health and safety standards, including the correct handling and storage of cleaning chemicals
• Maintain confidentiality and respect company property and sensitive areas at all times


2. Daily Cleaning Duties

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish office floors
• Dust desks, chairs, shelves, windowsills, and office equipment
• Empty waste bins daily and replace liners
• Clean, disinfect, and sanitise restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and hand basins
• Replenish restroom supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels
• Wipe and disinfect high-touch surfaces including door handles, switches, telephones, and shared equipment
• Maintain cleanliness in kitchen and canteen areas, including washing dishes, wiping countertops, and cleaning appliances


3. Maintenance and Upkeep

• Monitor cleanliness of all shared and high-traffic areas throughout the day
• Identify and report damage or breakages to furniture, fixtures, or equipment immediately
• Log any facility-related repair needs or potential hazards to prevent accidents or disruptions
• Assist in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace environment


4. Supplies and Inventory Control

• Track cleaning materials and restroom supplies to ensure adequate stock levels
• Maintain a register of cleaning supplies used
• Notify the Office Manager or Administrator when stock levels are low to support timely procurement
• Ensure all cleaning chemicals are stored safely and in compliance with health and safety regulations


5. Support and Coordination

• Follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules with accuracy and accountability
• Perform cleaning tasks with minimal disruption to staff and business operations
• Assist with office setup and cleanup for meetings, events, and company functions when required
• Handle confidential areas with discretion and professionalism
• Cooperate with office administration staff to address urgent cleaning requirements


6. Weekly and Periodic Cleaning Tasks

• Clean windows, blinds, and glass partitions
• Deep-clean carpets, upholstery, and fabric surfaces
• Polish office furniture and fixtures
• Conduct periodic deep-cleaning as scheduled
• Review cleaning supplies and report requirements proactively


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Educational Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) – preferred but not mandatory

Experience

• Previous experience as an office cleaner, general cleaner, or housekeeping staff will be an advantage
• Entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply
