South Rand Hospital, under the Gauteng Department of Health, is seeking five (5) dedicated and reliable Cleaners to join the Support Directorate. This permanent opportunity is ideal for motivated individuals who take pride in maintaining high cleanliness standards within a healthcare environment.

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
✔ Educational Requirements
- Grade 10 / AET Level 5 to Grade 12 certificate
(A school report with an official school stamp and log is accepted)
✔ Experience
- At least 1 year of experience in a hospital environment (essential)
✔ Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Knowledge of:
- Batho Pele Principles
- Patient Rights
- Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHS Act)
- Customer service awareness
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Self‑driven, motivated, and disciplined
- Must be willing and able to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Cleaning & Hygiene Maintenance
You will be responsible for ensuring all areas of the hospital are clean, safe, and presentable. Duties include:
- Cleaning wards, offices, corridors, boardrooms, floors, walls, windows, doors, and waiting areas
- Maintaining cleanliness in kitchens, bathrooms, and restrooms
- Ensuring waste removal and disposal according to infection control guidelines
- Maintaining cleaning materials and reporting shortages, damages, or required repairs
- Reporting broken cleaning equipment promptly
2. Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Compliance
- Adhere to IPC policies and procedures
- Maintain high hygiene standards to reduce infection risks
- Follow correct cleaning sequences and use approved disinfectants
- Ensure safe handling of cleaning chemicals
3. Support Hospital Compliance Standards
- Comply with:
- Ideal Hospital Framework
- Batho Pele Principles
- Patient Rights Charter
- Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Assist in maintaining a clean environment that supports patient dignity, comfort, and care
4. Complaint & Incident Support
- Contribute to managing patient complaints related to cleanliness
- Participate in reducing patient safety incidents by maintaining hazard‑free spaces
