Job Summary

We are currently seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Clerk: Cashier. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate receiving, counting, and reconciling of cash and EFT payments collected by delivery drivers. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing daily takings, preparing cash for secure banking, and maintaining proper financial documentation in line with audit standards.

As a vital part of the finance and operations environment, the Clerk: Cashier must be comfortable working under pressure, able to communicate clearly, and committed to maintaining the highest level of accuracy and professionalism.


Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and cash handling procedures
  • Previous experience in a similar cashiering or financial reconciliation role will be an advantage
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with internal stakeholders, particularly delivery drivers
  • Computer literacy and experience with transactional or accounting systems will be beneficial

Key Responsibilities

Daily Cash and EFT Handling

  • Accurately receive and count cash payments collected by delivery drivers.
  • Capture receipts and transactions into the relevant financial system promptly and without error.
  • Efficiently manage and resolve any payment-related queries or discrepancies.
  • Record the totals of all daily transactions and ensure reconciliation with supporting documentation.
  • Handle and record sundry banking transactions accurately.
  • Monitor and capture all incoming EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) payments, ensuring these are correctly recorded.

Reconciliation and Documentation

  • Ensure that cash and EFT receipts received match the supporting driver documentation and delivery logs.
  • Reconcile the daily takings to balance against total banking amounts.
  • Maintain clear records for auditing purposes, ensuring they are filed accurately and securely.
  • Assist with preparing all relevant documentation for daily banking and ensure that it is ready on time for handover to the security company.

Banking and Security Liaison

  • Prepare cash, documentation, and required reports for secure banking in accordance with allocated time slots.
  • Ensure that all banking is completed daily in conjunction with security protocols and third-party service providers.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls and follow correct procedures for cash storage and handling until handover is complete.
