The Food Service General Worker will be responsible for performing a variety of basic operational tasks to support the Production team within the FETA Department. This includes general labor, shrink-wrapping, sorting damaged products, loading, cleaning, and assisting with any other ad hoc duties as required. Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide critical support to the production and distribution functions of the FETA Department by ensuring that basic operational tasks are executed efficiently and accurately. The General Worker is essential in maintaining workflow, product quality, and compliance with health and safety regulations. This position is suitable for individuals seeking entry-level experience in the food service or manufacturing industry and offers opportunities to develop workplace skills and knowledge in a structured environment.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Operational Support and General Tasks

  • Perform general labor tasks, including but not limited to shrink-wrapping, sorting damaged or returned products, and basic handling of goods.
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials, supplies, or finished products.
  • Support production processes by providing timely assistance to the Production team.

2. Compliance and Safety

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and compliance with company policies.
  • Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations, wearing required protective equipment and reporting hazards immediately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in assigned areas, including machinery and workstations, to meet housekeeping standards.

3. Product Handling and Quality Control

  • Handle products with care to prevent damage and ensure quality is maintained throughout production and distribution processes.
  • Identify and sort damaged or defective items as per guidelines.
  • Assist in ensuring that stock is organized and accounted for.

4. Team Collaboration and Communication

  • Work as part of a team to meet daily production and operational targets.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Be flexible and willing to take on additional tasks as instructed by management to meet departmental needs.

5. Ad Hoc Responsibilities

  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks or duties as requested by the Production team or management to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Requirements

Education and Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 4).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Fluent in Business English, with the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong commitment to integrity, honesty, and consistency in work performance.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Physically fit and able to work in demanding conditions, including standing for long periods and lifting moderate weights.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and complete tasks to high standards.

Other Requirements:

  • Must successfully complete readiness and fitness assessments as part of the recruitment process.
  • Must be willing to work in extreme conditions (cold storage or manufacturing environments).
