We are currently seeking a reliable and experienced Courier to join our team in St Alma, Western Cape. This is a vital role where you will ensure the safe and timely transportation of specimens, reports, and other essential goods to support doctors, laboratories, and healthcare clients.


Purpose of the Job

The Courier will be responsible for the collection and delivery of medical specimens, reports, and related goods in accordance with company policies and safety regulations. This includes route planning, ensuring timely service delivery, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and providing excellent customer service.


Key Responsibilities

As a Courier, you will be accountable for:

Collections and Deliveries

  • Check moxes and tasks daily to plan efficient routes for collections and deliveries.
  • Safely collect and deliver specimens, reports, and other goods from outlying laboratories, supporting doctors, healthcare providers, and clients.
  • Ensure all specimens and goods reach their correct destinations within required timeframes and in good condition.

Documentation and Tracking

  • Complete and sign proof of delivery documentation to maintain accurate records for traceability.
  • Scan specimens and results using the Courier Management Programme to ensure every item is trackable and accounted for.
  • Submit completed logs and records daily to management for monitoring and reporting purposes.

Safety and Compliance

  • Wear and utilize appropriate protective gear (e.g., gloves, specimen bags, eye protection) in compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Report spills, accidents, or exposure to hazardous materials immediately and complete required incident/accident reports for insurance and safety purposes.
  • Maintain adherence to all Quality Assurance Standards regarding specimen handling and delivery.

Asset and Vehicle Care

  • Ensure safe keeping of company assets, including vehicles, petrol cards, uniforms, and equipment.
  • Report faults or damages immediately to management and ensure timely repairs and replacements.
  • Keep vehicles clean, presentable, and compliant with safety and hygiene standards.

Customer Service

  • Provide excellent, professional, and courteous service at all times.
  • Represent the Lancet brand positively while interacting with clients, healthcare professionals, and internal staff.
  • Address delivery-related queries and escalate unresolved issues to management as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:
    • Grade 12 / Matric (NQF Level 4) or equivalent qualification (preferred).
    • Grade 10 with 2–3 years of relevant working experience OR a minimum of 10 years’ courier experience will be accepted.
  • Licensing:
    • Valid and appropriate driver’s licence (essential).
  • Experience:
    • Courier experience in healthcare, logistics, or related fields is advantageous.
    • Experience with specimen handling and delivery processes will be highly beneficial.

Skills and Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Route planning and navigation.
  • Accurate completion of delivery documentation and reports.
  • Familiarity with courier management or tracking systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety regulations.
  • Ability to handle hazardous materials safely.
