Our Beverages Operating Unit in Pretoria West is expanding, and we are seeking motivated, reliable, and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as Packers. This is a temporary assignment, ideal for candidates who thrive in fast-paced environments and are eager to contribute to a high-performance culture.


Role Purpose

The Packer (Temporary) plays a vital role in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timely packaging of our beverage products. This position requires precision, attention to detail, and adherence to health, safety, and food quality standards at all times. By working effectively on the production line, you will help ensure that every product leaving the plant meets RCL FOODS’ high standards of excellence.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Product Packing and Quality Control

  • Pack cooled products into crates accurately according to specified sizes and quantities.
  • Stack crates onto pallets in line with operational requirements.
  • Verify Best Before (BB) dates and ensure correct label stickers are applied.
  • Review the daily production plan and pack products accordingly.
  • Identify and remove defective, incomplete, or damaged products and materials.

Operational Excellence and Stock Management

  • Follow proper procedures for stock rotation, including FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
  • Assist with cycle counting, stock reconciliation, and storage area control.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by reporting process inefficiencies and suggesting enhancements.

Health, Safety, and Environment (SHE)

  • Maintain workplace safety by following established Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) guidelines.
  • Actively participate in all relevant company safety programs.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times, including the proper use of PPE in designated areas and confined space safety protocols.
  • Report any food safety or quality issues immediately to management.

Housekeeping and Compliance

  • Keep the work area neat, tidy, and hazard-free.
  • Contribute to effective housekeeping as part of the team’s overall efficiency goals.
  • Support the branch in ensuring compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.

Team Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and production line teams to meet operational targets.
  • Demonstrate reliability and flexibility by being available for shift work, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Uphold the company’s values by maintaining professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to quality.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Education:

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 equivalent (Essential).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing or production environment (Essential).

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of stock control and storage area management.
  • Familiarity with cycle counting and stock reconciliation processes.
  • Knowledge of safety, health, and environmental practices in a factory setting.
  • Ability to implement and follow FIFO principles.

Personal Attributes:

  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Physically fit and able to work in a demanding production environment.
  • Safety-conscious and responsible.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
