Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Basic Literacy (Grade 8 or equivalent).
  • Language Proficiency: Ability to communicate effectively in at least two (2) official languages used within Mangaung Metro Municipality.
  • Experience: No prior work experience is required; however, previous exposure to general labour or municipal service environments will be advantageous.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Must be willing to perform manual labour under varied weather conditions.
    • Must be willing to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays, when required.
    • Must be able to work as part of a team and follow supervisory instructions.
    • Must reside within the Mangaung Metropolitan area (proof of residence required).

Core Responsibilities

The successful candidates will perform general labour and support functions necessary for effective municipal operations, including but not limited to:

Parks and Cemeteries

  • Assisting with digging, preparation, and maintenance of graves.
  • Supporting horticultural and landscaping activities, including planting, pruning, and lawn maintenance.
  • Cleaning and maintaining cemeteries, parks, and recreational areas.

Solid Waste Management

  • Collecting refuse and recyclable materials through door-to-door and public waste systems.
  • Assisting in maintaining cleanliness across public areas, streets, and dumping sites.
  • Reporting illegal dumping activities and supporting waste separation at source initiatives.

Roads, Water, and Sanitation

  • Assisting in maintenance and repairs of roads, pavements, and stormwater drainage systems.
  • Supporting sewer line cleaning, water leak detection, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Participating in sanitation, purification, and vacuum services as required.

Facilities and Market Operations

  • Performing cleaning, maintenance, and general labour tasks at municipal facilities and market areas.
  • Assisting in asset handling, setup, and relocation for community service operations.

General Duties

  • Using manual tools and small equipment safely.
  • Adhering to municipal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Ensuring all allocated work areas are kept clean, organized, and operational.
  • Supporting emergency operations and service delivery initiatives when needed.
