Purpose of the Position
The City of Tshwane invites applications from hardworking, reliable, and self-motivated individuals to join the municipality as Cleaners under a fixed-term employment contract. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who take pride in maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and order in public facilities and administrative buildings.
The purpose of this position is to render essential cleaning and ad hoc removal services in municipal buildings and surrounding areas, contributing to a clean, safe, and productive work environment for city employees and the public.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness in municipal offices, facilities, and outdoor areas. Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Cleaning Services
- Render daily cleaning services in various municipal buildings, offices, passages, stairways, lifts, and washrooms.
- Sweep, scrub, mop, polish, vacuum, and dust office floors and furniture to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Empty and clean bins and ashtrays in all designated areas.
- Clean windows, walls, doors, lifts, and vehicles as required.
- Maintain cleanliness in kitchens, canteens, meeting rooms, and shared facilities.
- Clean and sanitize toilets and washrooms regularly, ensuring sufficient supply of toiletries.
- Refill soap dispensers, paper holders, deo-blocks, and air fresheners to maintain hygiene standards.
2. Outdoor and Garden Maintenance
- Clean and maintain outside areas, including gardens, parking spaces, and walkways.
- Rake leaves, water plants, and remove litter and debris from municipal grounds.
- Assist in minor gardening and landscaping activities when required.
- Ensure outdoor spaces remain clean, safe, and visually appealing to staff and visitors.
3. Ad Hoc Removal and Support Services
- Provide ad hoc removal services for office furniture, refuse, or recyclable waste when requested.
- Assist with moving office items, setting up venues for meetings or events, and cleaning after events.
- Collect and sort recyclable paper and other materials for the City’s recycling initiatives.
4. Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Follow all occupational health and safety procedures as outlined by the City of Tshwane.
- Use cleaning materials, tools, and equipment safely and in accordance with guidelines.
- Report any damages, defects, or safety hazards immediately to the supervisor.
- Wear protective clothing and equipment as required.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with municipal policies at all times.
5. General Duties
- Ensure that all allocated cleaning equipment is properly maintained, stored, and accounted for.
- Perform duties in a time-efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Undertake additional cleaning or removal tasks as instructed by management, within the parameters of the job level.
- Cooperate with supervisors and colleagues to maintain smooth daily operations and ensure service delivery standards are met.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Basic literacy skills (ability to read, write, and follow instructions).
- Ability to perform physical duties and manual work continuously throughout the workday.
- Relevant cleaning experience in an office, industrial, or municipal environment will be an added advantage.
- Experience in gardening or outdoor cleaning duties will also be an advantage.
- Must be physically fit and in good health to perform cleaning and manual tasks effectively.
- Willingness to work anywhere within the Tshwane Metropolitan area as required by departmental management.

Work Environment
This position involves both indoor and outdoor work at various municipal sites, including administrative offices, public buildings, and outdoor areas. The role may require exposure to cleaning agents, dust, and weather conditions. Appropriate safety gear will be provided, and all work will comply with municipal occupational safety standards.
Employment Terms
- Contract Duration: Fixed-term, not exceeding 3 years.
- Working Hours: As determined by the City of Tshwane, which may include weekends or overtime if operationally required.
- Remuneration: R6 000 per month (all-inclusive).
- Deployment: Successful candidates must be willing to be placed or rotated across different Tshwane regions as per operational needs.
